I loved this one, and was the one who suggested it, so I'm pretty happy about the choice.

Is this a particularly good one for audio? I'm at the monetary level of "only *highly* recommended books are to be picked up from audible"

I've been meaning to read this since it came out, so I'm glad the fire's been lit under me. I've liked Wilson's work in comics so I'm eager to see how this turned out.

I read Alif when it was first published and I greatly enjoyed it. I look forward to re-reading this with the group.

Really interested to read this. Have put a reserve on it at the library. Been really bad a reading along this year, so hoping to join in the last few reads in the coming months

I have it and been planning to read it for ever. So this'll finally get me started.

Sounds very interesting. Unfortunately, it's not available on Audible (Europe) - so I've ordered it in paperback. I recently read The Golem and the Jinni which also would have been a good sword pick.

Well, I was going to suggest we read G. Willow Wilson's Ms. Marvel, Vol. 1: No Normal as an alt pick this month, but it turns out the first trade won't be released until the last week of October. That's disappointing.

I think Alif the Unseen is a great choice for the club because it is:-

a) exciting
b) an entirely pleasurable reading experience
c) well written
d) innovative and different
e) It works totally well as an action story but there is plenty of depth and stuff going on under the surface so there is both much to enjoy and discuss
f) Its been around long enough that it is easy and cheap to get in a variety of formats.

ohhhh, she's the person behind the new Ms Marvel. Things are starting to click in my head now. Need to pick that up when it comes out, also looks interesting. Been hearing great things about it

I'm quite happy this is the pick. Her writing on the Ms. Marvel comic has been great and it turns out I bought this as a Kindle deal a couple months ago.

I discovered it's at my library, though, so I'm just going to check it out. I find I hardly ever purchase books for more than $10 anymore unless they're my favorite authors' brand new books (i.e. a book I've been waiting for).

I guess Captain Marvel and Ms Marvel are different people now. I'm way out of the loop on comics. I'll have to check out the new Ms Marvel

The old Ms Marvel is now Captain Marvel and the new Ms Marvel is a new character. Their writers are going a really great job of improving the representation of women in comics

Me too. In fact I rarely purchase anything that isn't on sale. $10.49 just isn't happening.

Great comic, one of my current favorites. Bummer that the timing wasn't right for the trade as an alternate read for the group. However, if you like comics and G. Willow Wilson's writing, highly recommended to check out when the trade does hit the shelves.

...didn't plan on reading it, but with that many people discussing this I just might :o

I'm really enjoying this pick and I LOVE Wilson's take on Ms. Marvel. The art is fantastic too.
