SOLVED: Children's/YA > SOLVED. Young Adult book was set in a mental ward that the main character's dad owned, and she lived there with her parents. I remember that the main character collected fountain pens and the book had a purple cover. There was a gay couple. Spoilers. [s]

Virgil | 7 comments EDIT: It was See How They Lie by Sue Wallman.
The book was set in a mental ward that the main character's dad owned, and she lived there with her parents. I remember that the main character collected fountain pens and the book had a purple cover. There was a gay couple and a character called Will, and I think Will might have been one of the people in the gay couple but I'm not certain. I remember that the ward turned out to be a scam and the pills the main character's dad had been administering were bad for whatever reason. One of the characters had paranoia and there was a scene with him and the main character in the grounds outside where he said something about there being no cameras out there. I've been trying to figure out what this book is called for weeks so hopefully someone knows.

See How They Lie by Sue Wallman seems to match your description.

Google search -- site:www.goodreads.com "young adult" "her father" psychiatric "fountain pens"

You're welcome, Virgil. Glad you found your book. Interesting how a small but unique detail like the character collecting "fountain pens" led to the solution.

Yeah. Surprisingly, it's what I remembered most about the book.
