I had no idea she had studied with Roman Jakobson. I think she even mentions one of his books in Speedboat.

The edition I have says that she studied at Bryn Mawr, Harvard, la Sorbonne, Yale, and Georgetown, and she has as many degrees as a thermometer. Plus she wrote for the New Yorker for decades, so I imagine she knew pretty much everybody...
