Why does Consul Wayland exert so much effort discrediting Charlotte and removing her from power? Is he motivated by self-interest, or by what’s best for the Clave? Does Charlotte exhibit any of the character flaws that Wayland claims she has?

Jessika (jessika_56) I think he was mostly motivated by the pressure he was receiving from Benedict Lightwood. Self-preservation was definitely in play.
