I read the first four books, this one I promise I'll start to read tomorrow if I intend to stay spoiler-free for the season five... Although I hear the series will spoil our reading of the books that follow.
Aargh. I just read one interview, in which the producents jokingly mention which character ((view spoiler) -- seriously, do not click this!) will be killed off in the fifth book (and in the series too). I truly hope they meant to deceive us, because that really is a major spoiler, that they shouldn't have mentioned in a promo interview! Not that I particularly care for the character (in Martin's world, one learns not to), but it is annoying to know something before you read in the book itself. Well, I shouldn't have read the interview in the first place :(
I finished the book few days ago and feel a bit disappointed. It was so slow going and the characters were more annoying than interesting.
While I get the point (the story wouldn't go far later on in the next installment, right) of getting rid of one very important character (I won't say which one - I won't even confirm if the "incident" from the interview above was true or not), I feel it was done in a stupid manner. Everything he did was so consistent and true to the character until the very end, and that undid him, of course. And what to say of Daenerys? I came to hate her now for being so annoying and nonsensical. O why there is no appealing female character in the book? Does Martin really hate women so much or he just doesn't understand them? Ugh.
