I love to hear how names and areas are chosen for a book. Definitely like final title bests. One of the prettiest covers I've seen. I bought the book because of the cover, then couldn't wait to get more of your books!
I have re-read Garden Spells so many times. My husband always says "and how many times have you read that one?" Hehe. I am so excited to hear more about the Waverly family!!

Thank you for the insight into your book family. That is how I think of them. I love when they visit other stories of yours like in the Peach Keeper. I wish someone would make a movie from your books. Because they are about the unique people that we all have in our lives who are special in their own way.Today is a rainy day in Maine, so maybe when I am done studying, I will curl us with my friends in the stories that you create. Maybe with some hot chocolate and cookie. Hmmmmm who needs to just study I going to go bake some cookies and study.

Evanelle is based on a dear old woman with the same name, a friend of my great-aunt's, who would come by with surprises in the form of broccoli cornbread and sweet potato pie and buckets of blackberries.
My original title was Strange Gifts. It was changed to Garden Spells and Southern Belles, then shortened to just Garden Spells.
Bascom, the name of the town, and Lunsford's reservoir, the local swimming hole, mentioned in Garden Spells, are subtle nods to Bascom Lamar Lunsford, the man who founded the Mountain Dance and Folk Festival in Asheville, N.C., purportedly the longest running folk festival in the nation. He was known as the Minstrel of the Appalachians."
