I share 1 out of 3 with you. Agree Disobedience is a fantastic book. Great story and characterisation and some fascinating insights into the Jewish faith.

My top three books for this year were published ages ago, I'm afraid. I've only recently got round to them:
Things I Don't Want to Know by Barbara Levy. It's witty, sharp and insightful.
The Great Gatsby by Scott Fitzgerald. I loved the writing; it really drew me in to the period.
Snow Falling on Cedars by David Guterson. Perhaps a little slow at times with a lot of description but a riveting story and very atmospheric.

I loved Gatsby - the writing really drew me in and the characters, though pretty unappealing, are beautifully drawn

the others will go on my list - heard of the third but not the first

I shall be reading Helen Dunmore's The Lie, when I get some time. It's not possible to give my three best books of 2014, as I haven't had much time for reading. Hopefully that will all change now.

I am keen to read it too. Helen Dunmore was at our local Appledore Book Festival last month. I was impressed by her. She talked very evocatively about The Lie.

The Lie is one that I want to read as well after listening to Helen Dunmore at Appledore. I've not read any of her other novels, so looking forward to discovering a new author soon.
