Americanah - a contemporary take on race and identity in our globalised world.Americanah
Disobedience - a wayward daughter of an Orthdox Jewish family returns home to Hendon, after years of living a very non-Orthodox life in New York.

I share 1 out of 3 with you. Agree Disobedience is a fantastic book. Great story and characterisation and some fascinating insights into the Jewish faith.

When you mention a book, try adding the book so others can see reviewsDisobedience

on a bit of a cheat, I saw Gone Girl at the cinema recently - really enjoyed the filmGone Girl

Kathy Shuker (kathyshuker) | 523 comments My top three books for this year were published ages ago, I'm afraid. I've only recently got round to them:
Things I Don't Want to Know by Barbara Levy. It's witty, sharp and insightful.
The Great Gatsby by Scott Fitzgerald. I loved the writing; it really drew me in to the period.
Snow Falling on Cedars by David Guterson. Perhaps a little slow at times with a lot of description but a riveting story and very atmospheric.

I loved Gatsby - the writing really drew me in and the characters, though pretty unappealing, are beautifully drawn

the others will go on my list - heard of the third but not the first

Debra Pritchard | 2 comments I shall be reading Helen Dunmore's The Lie, when I get some time. It's not possible to give my three best books of 2014, as I haven't had much time for reading. Hopefully that will all change now.

Look forward to hearing your thoughts on it. Be great if you could add the book when you do a post so that people can see what you are referring to and you will also find other people's reviews that way. Ive added it hereThe Lie.

I am keen to read it too. Helen Dunmore was at our local Appledore Book Festival last month. I was impressed by her. She talked very evocatively about The Lie.

Angela Hobbs | 213 comments The Lie is one that I want to read as well after listening to Helen Dunmore at Appledore. I've not read any of her other novels, so looking forward to discovering a new author soon.
