Ed Erwin | 331 comments My in-real-life group is reading
Deadpool: Dracula's Gauntlet and Batman: The Long Halloween. So, I guess I'll be exposed to some super-heroes. (Sigh...)

Nancy | 174 comments I went to post what I read in September and it was closed already. I actually barely read any graphic novels, but I'm still sharing!

Wonder Woman: Spirit of Truth- This oversize graphic novel illustrated by the amazing Alex Ross reinforced that Wonder Woman is a hero for the ages, but also ably connected her to our modern-day world.
Cheshire Crossing- Dorothy of Oz, Wendy from Neverland and
Alice from Wonderland are teens whose fantasy world's collide. The tale is more appropriate for a YA audience, although the charming illustrations might attract younger readers.
The Walking Dead V32- Kirkman dew this zombie series to a close in a mostly satisfying way!

I am listening to the Wolverine: The Long Night podcast and am loving it!

Lenny (lennylenlen) | 158 comments I've been too busy to read as much as I usually do :( but every night I'm reading a few vignettes from Brazen and it's fantastic - thank you to the person who nominated it for September! I actually think it's better read this way than one or two sittings.

After things calm down I'll be looking forward to our group read They Called Us Enemy.

Brazen Rebel Ladies Who Rocked the World by Pénélope Bagieu They Called Us Enemy by George Takei

That's a good one!

I'm reading Fatale, Vol. 1: Death Chases Me. Having trouble getting into it because it switches between two timelines, but it looks like it is going to be creepy and good for Halloween.

Also finished the short Snow, Glass, Apples which is also creepy and has beautiful art by Colleen Doran.

Ji-Li Never been much for horror genre, so no Halloween themed books, instead I've been reading Pokemon manga this month.
Currently on Pokémon X•Y, Vol. 11 by Hidenori Kusaka Pokemon X & Y Volume 11

Thinking about reading the Dragon Age Omnibus
Dragon Age Omnibus by David Gaider after I finish the last 2 Pokemon manga I have left. And then get into reading all the Ouran HS Host Club manga since I have the collector's set. (1-18)

Lenny (lennylenlen) | 158 comments I finished Brazen, They Called Us Enemy, and Gender Queer - all fantastic nonfiction memoirs that were nominated for this month's BOTM. Highly recommend all of them.

Brazen Rebel Ladies Who Rocked the World by Pénélope Bagieu They Called Us Enemy by George Takei Gender Queer A Memoir by Maia Kobabe

I'm in complete and total denial that the final volumes of Paper Girls and WicDiv are on my self. Procrastinating feelings with Monstress vol 4, Snow Glass Apples, and Heathen vol 2.

Francis | 134 comments I've not been very good at posting here recently, which sucks cos I love this place!

Most recently I've been continuing to read;

Doomsday Clock, which continues to be excellent, I just wish it wasn't taking so long to be released, but if thats required for the high standard it's maintaining I guess it's better they take their time than rush out an inferior work. Guilty confession, I much prefer this to the original Watchmen (I know it can only exist as a consequence, but I'm not a fan of Alan Moore's nihilism).

Green Lantern, which I'm reading out of loyalty to my younger self's love of Grant Morrison, but it's a bit of a struggle. I think that Morrison's work on other people's characters restricts his writing style, and he essentially has too strong a voice to do these stories justice.

Catwoman, every issue is a pleasure to read and Joelle Jones is fast becoming one of my new favourite creators, I especially enjoy her art work.

Black Hammer / Justice League, which has a really nice concite, essentially it's the same Black Hammer story but switches the JLA into the story, and sends everything off on a tangent. It could have been lazy and cynical, but I don't think Jeff Lemire does that.

Steeple, it's a new title about a Church of England Minister who arrives in a new town, and encounters occult happenings, by John Allison of Giant Days fame, and I'm labelling it Giant Days meets Gideon Falls!

It's too much to list everything else I've read since last time I posted, but I intend to read Die Vol. 1, The Imortal Hulk vol.1 and Sláine: The Horned God from 200AD really soon.

Oh and I need to read BotM They Called us Enemy too!

Devon Munn (devonmm) | 119 comments I'm currently reading Crossed, Vol 5 and Colder Vol 2 (which i will finish today). I finished Southern Dog by Jeremy Holt yesterday and it was an alright read.

message 18: by Ed (new)

Ed Erwin | 331 comments "...Giant Days meets Gideon Falls..." Whoh! I'll have to check that out.

"...Peculia..." Probably the most interesting of Sala's work for me, but it still leaves me wanting more.

I continued with Fatale, Vol. 2: The Devil's Business. This second volume is easier to follow. The story is starting to make sense. It also feels like a good stopping point for a while since it wraps up the 1970's storyline and the next volume goes into other time periods.

Lenny (lennylenlen) | 158 comments This week I read through Heathen volume 2, Snow Glass Apples, and the first issue of The White Trees. The WicDiv/Paper Girls procrastination continues with every other possible thing to read in my house.

Heathen Volume 2 (Heathen, #2) by Natasha Alterici Snow, Glass, Apples by Neil Gaiman The White Trees #1 by Chip Zdarsky

message 24: by Francis (new)

Francis | 134 comments I read Loki #1 - 4, it's pretty good, and I reckon it could be really good, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the creative team deliver.

message 25: by Nancy (new)

Nancy | 174 comments My October Reads:

The Wicked + The Divine (V 6-9)- I wrapped up this unique series that had excellent commentary on our skewered celebrity obsession and media culture in a truly thought-provoking way…and yet, it was so damn confusing at times! Still, it ended more divine than wicked.
Heroes in Crisis- A controversial look at how PTSD could affect superheroes. A hard look at how mental illness is still stigmatized today.
They Called Us Enemy- An eye-opening memoir by George Takei about the Japenese America internment camps during the 1940's. Great book for its educational content and so we learn from our mistakes so something similar doesn't happen again.
Snow, Glass, Apples- A delightfully creepy twist on the Snow White fairytale by Neil Gaiman.

message 26: by Daniel (new)

Daniel | 265 comments Rachel Rising, Volume 1: The Shadow of Death - what an amazing spooky read, also getting some stuff doen for the reading challenge!
Kill or be Killed, Vol. 1 - Will definitely keep reading. I love Brubaker and Phillips.

Batman Annual #4 - Love these annuals.
DCeased #6 - a fitting end to this series. You may cry.
Tales from the Multiverse: The Death of Superman: I am really enjoying these one shots. I can feel it building towards something big.

Phil, did you read The Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer before you read Wires and Nerve? I'm curious how reading Wires and Nerve would go for someone unfamiliar with the prose series related to it. I loved Wires and Nerve, but I was familiar with all the characters already.

I hadn't read any of The Lunar Chronicles before Wires and Nerve. I thought the story was decent. For me the art didn't make the characters distinctive enough, so I got mixed up on who was who a few times. I don't think that would have been an issue if it had been fully colored though. The setting is cool and I think I would enjoy reading the novels. Wires and Nerve felt like a book that I would have gotten more out of if I was already familiar with the setting and characters. Maybe it is one I will have to revisit at some point.
