Movies that are actually better than the Books?

Hey all,
So I was just wondering if anyone has ever found the movie of a book to be better than the book itself? Not where the books are better than the movies cause let’s face it that’s pretty much alwayssss.

My example is After by Anna Todd; absolutely loved the movie really didn’t like the book.

The After movie was good. The actor choices were great. HOWEVER, the movie left ALOT out from the book. The book was entirely better than the movie.

I have to say that the books are way better than the movies. The fact that the actors are Jo and Hero is affecting everyone's opinion on the movie. The truth is that the books tell a much more complex story than the movies. They have cut so many storyline in the movies that sometimes it doesnt even feel like After anymore. Its essence is slowly disappearing.
Dont get me wrong, i really like the movies and im grateful they were made because it is always exciting to see your favorite fictional characters on screen. Im just saying that I dont feel like the essence of After is completely represented.
The toxicity is not even that bad and all of the stories with Zed, Steph and Molly were barely shown. They have focused on the main characters and it is sometimes a little boring because the only problems they have are created by them, due to the fact that the characters around them barely have their own storyline.
I just believe that without the external drama, the story is a little repetitive and nothing important really happens.

Hi Annabell,
I have to agree... usually book to movie translations are so bad most notably the mortal instruments and vampire academy. But the After movie was amazing... I missed his dirty talk and it would have been great hearing those words with a british accent attached to them but they really did a good job with the screenplay

Hey Trisha,
Yeah I found that to. The movie was still very good but I did find that it wasn’t very true to the book and they missed a few valid things. I really want to read Vampire Academy and have watched the movie and I actually liked it so from what I heard the book must be very good but I can understand what you’re saying. I found the movie of the Darkest Minds was so inaccurate it was a disgrace to the book!

Hi All,
Actually I wouldn't agree with you guys. I would say that in the movie the characters weren't well developed as in the book. They didn't really show Hardin's jealousness and really bad anger issues. But after all I'm really looking forward to 'After we collided' movie!

Floor van der Ploeg Hi Samantha, I totally agree with you. I liked the book so much with all of their fights and then they got back together. And the characters in the bo ...more

While I liked the movie for After, I found it a little slow. I thought the book was way better. Maybe the sequel will be better.

As far as my thoughts on movies better than books, I'd have to go with Eat, Pray Love! I thought Julia Roberts did a fantastic job, but really, when doesn't she??

I think the 50 Shades movies were better than the books! I liked After the movie and After the book equally - as in 100% obsessed with both. Cant wait for After 2.

@Annabell you are right there are very few movies that are better than books. One of such movie I think is Brokeback Mountain by Annie Proulx.

AFTER I loved the movie and hated the book, it was an unnecessarily drag and a waist of my money.

FIFTY Shades I loved the books more but the first two movies did not tell a story line, more like plots take from different parts of the books and flopped together to look like a movie.
But the 3rd movie was actually well thought out and paid homage to the book and was more believable as a film.

One movie that is much better than the book, IMO, is "The Talented Mr. Ripley." I read the book by Patricia Highsmith after I saw the movie, and I much prefer the film version.

I loved the book and I hate the movie. Im sorry but the build up is so much better in the book and the characters in the movie are so different. I can't see how people love the movie so much, I really don't see it.

NOPE! didnt like this book tessa was annoying and hardin was manipultaive and gross. no offense i just didnt like this book. the movies werent good either and in the second movie hardin was just so despirate and annoying. ohwell! at least anna todd made her coin.

My answer is The Last Song, I absolutely love the movie and I have seen it a lot of times, but I couldn't even get myself to read the book past the 2nd chapter.
