The Dursleys were so mean and hideous that summer that all Harry Potter wanted was to get back to the Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. But just as he's packing his bags, Harry receives a warning from a strange, impish creature named Dobby who says that if Harry Potter returns to Hogwarts, disaster will strike

And strike it does. For in Harry's second year at Hogwarts, fresh torments and horrors arise, including an outrageously stuck-up new professor, Gilderoy Lockhart, a spirit named Moaning Myrtle who haunts the girls' bathroom, and the unwanted attentions of Ron Weasley's younger sister, Ginny.

But each of these seem minor annoyances when the real trouble begins, and someone -- or something -- starts turning Hogwarts students to stone. Could it be Draco Malfoy, a more poisonous rival than ever? Could it possibly be Hagrid, whose mysterious past is finally told? Or could it be the one everyone at Hogwarts most suspects . . . Harry Potter himself?

Yeah, I'm planning on read one a month or so, so I'll probably be starting Prisoner of Azkaban mid December. We can plan that later though if it sounds good?

(view spoiler)[Lockhart's dumb antics are actually pretty funny, "But the point is, the bones are no longer broken." 😂

I never noticed this before but it's pretty messed up that the students are allowed to use whatever brooms they want for quidditch, that's not very fair. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 13
(view spoiler)[Oh no, poor Hagrid! It's very interesting though, the parallels between Tom Riddle and Harry, I don't think I picked up on that when I read this/watched the movie as a child. (hide spoiler)]

I’ve watched all the movies before reading any of the books, but I feel so much more awful for Harry reading the books! Poor Harry :(

Hmmm no clue when I'll get to this, got lots of books to read already! And no time!

Same! I feel that way about lots of movie adaptions, even if they're good adaptions, I don't feel as attached to the characters as I do when I read the book since the book makes their inner thoughts much more clear.

@Maddie take your time, girl! I’m slacking too a bit with the other book I’m supposed to be reading haha

@Claire Yeah! Like, I’ve always been so attached to the characters in the movie series, but as I’m on the second book I’m realizing books really are better and different. I’m kind of glad I watched the movies beforehand tho because as I’m reading the chapters, I can picture the scenes happening in my head, I love it!

I love reading this book again since I saw the movie recently. I keep comparing everything to the movie and smiling when I find something that's different in the book, feels like an easter egg haha. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[Yeah, Lockhart is so dumb it's funny sometimes. The whole part about him being convinced Harry wants to be famous and a celebrity like him keeps making me smile.

Also Dobby needs to stop. Or he needs to tell the truth, or he needs to leave Harry alone! He could have killed him! (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[Poor Hermoine, I always remember them in the book ánd the movie saying how horrible she looked after drinking the potion. (Well, especially Moaning Myrtle). But I actually thought she looked kinda cute in the movie. Like an extremely good cosplay?

Also, poor Harry, everyone thinking he is the heir? Must be really tough to deal with that and everyones opinions (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ I still really liked this book! Didn't plan to read this book in one day but I did haha. I just didn't want to stop.

I really appreciate that in the book we get a much clearer picture regarding Ginny's story, I feel like you can understand her side of the story way better in the books. I have to honestly say that they could have done that better in the movies.

I also really like that Lockhart hasn't just been lying but there is actual truth to the stories in his books. They just aren't his stories....

I also feel like something is going to go down with the new professor, Lockhart. Ginny is kinda cringy so far.... I actually much prefer how the movie drags everything out, it's such a rush in the books.
