Tiscar Alfaro I chose this book because I watched the movie and I really enjoyed it. Also, one of my friends read this book and they recommend it to me. I thought the book was really interesting. It had a lot of humor and the protagonist was really funny.
Willowdean, an obese teenage girl, is tired of the stereotypes. After going through a summer break up, she and her beautiful, skinny best friend, Ellen, decide to enter their town's most important event: Miss Clover City beauty pageant. Them and a couple of other unexpected candidates, plan to make a point. They want to show that every girl, pretty or ugly, skinny or fat, deserve to be up there as much as every other girl does. Her mother, founder of Dumplin, Willowdean's worst nickname, is the pageant's organizer and its best winner. Her mom would be upset and scared by this decision. With Dolly Parton's songs and fun tricks, Dumplin would make you love the south's pageants and this girl's confidence.
I would recommend this book to someone that would like to read about hopeful and inspiring stories.
