Counting By Sevens

I chose this book because I loved The Fault in our Stars so much. I was told that this book would have a similar concept. Although they were both very similar, they were also very different at the same time. I thought the book was very good. I loved how the author described and developed Willow Chance as a main character. I loved the overall message of the book. I especially liked how the author switched perspectives every few chapters.
Willow Chance was adopted at birth and labelled as high gifted shortly after. She was also very different from most normal kids and enjoyed studying plants and the human body’s diseases. At the start of sixth grade, she was set to go to a new school. AFter a few weeks, she was sent to see Dell Duke, the school counselor. He immediately labelled her as a genius. At the counselor’s office, WIllow also met Mai and Quang - ha, a sister - brother duo. Not long after meeting her new friends and counselor, Willow got the news that her parents had died in a car crash. Eventually, Mai, her brother, and her mom, Pattie, get short term custody over Willow. Because their house is in a garage, the four of them go to live with Dell Duke. Willow eventually finds herself at home living with Dell Duke and Mai’s family but they eventually have to face the idea that WIllow could be taken away from them.
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves to read realistic fiction. I would also recommend this book to people who love to read books with characters who seem larger than life.
