Pat the Book Goblin | 687 comments Around the World in Eighty Days (French: Le tour du monde en quatre-vingts jours) is an adventure novel by the French writer Jules Verne, published in 1873. In the story, Phileas Fogg of London and his newly employed French valet Passepartout attempt to circumnavigate the world in 80 days on a £20,000 wager (£2,242,900 in 2019) set by his friends at the Reform Club. It is one of Verne's most acclaimed works.

Enjoy!!

This is one of Verne's most entertaining books, and Passepartout is a wonderful character.

Jacquie | 75 comments Around the World in Eighty Days was such a good read this time around. I read this as a kid and did not enjoy it but wow, it was fantastic! I seem to remember a hot air balloon ride from the old movie, but maybe I made that memory up. I think air travel was about the only form of transportation he and his “family” didn’t take. So glad this was the November choice. 🥳

You remembered correctly, Jacquie. The movie did have a hot air balloon and added a lot of scenes that weren't in the book.
I enjoyed the book a lot and got a real kick out of the ending.

I haven't seen it but they probably stuck in some stuff from Mysterious Island.

I reached the bet. I am wondering how Passepartout will receive the news.
