Hey everyone!
You can shelve the spooky reads, November has arrived!

What are you reading/planning to read this month?

Tnkw01 | 2293 comments Mod
I'm going to read the Raven's Shadow series this month after Watership Down.

message 3: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments Finished Seven Blades in Black and decided to move right into The Gallows Black, a prequel novella about Sal the Cacophony.

message 4: by Bran (new)

Bran | 98 comments I'm trying to read some of the books that have been on my shelf for a while, I'm onto Wise Child, then I'm picking up Monstress, Vol. 4: The Chosen which is new but I'll read it in a hour so I'll get back to my ever growing collection :)

message 5: by Aaron (new)

Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments I'll be finishing up The Burning White which so far has been amazing. And after that I'll probably move onto The Fold as I recently reread 14 (which i love) to read the sequels.

message 7: by Jason (new)

Jason | 131 comments Finished The Burning White30169100] which was awesome. Book of the year for me.
Onto New Spring for now, then a reread of Skyward in preparation for Starsight at the end of the month

I finished Blood Song and plan on reading the series. I'm reading The Lord Collector, which is a short story set in the same world as the series.

message 12: by Janette (new)

Janette | 211 comments Reading crime novels at the moment however next on my list is The Black Prism as I am now going to read the whole series. I read the first couple when they first came out but then never got round to reading the rest. I also have The Secret Commonwealth and Starsight on order at the library so will be reading those soon too.

I'm in the middle of three - I'm just not feeling booky lately, too many worries in my head. But, I did read a thriller type In a Dark, Dark Wood, which I finished in one sitting :)

I just picked up my library book - Name of all things. Woo!

message 15: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments Finished Bran Mak Morn: The Last King and started The Starless Sea and I'll be darned if Erin Morgenstern hasn't done it again.

I haven't really felt like reading this days due to personal problems (the most important being: boiler broke down, no hot water nor heating :O), so I have been indulging in re-reading "light" favorites in audio: first Skyward for M-Bot babbling about mushrooms, then The Crown Tower for some Royce & Hadrian banter :D

message 17: by Janette (new)

Janette | 211 comments I‘ve finished The Black Prism and am now reading The Blinding Knife. After that, I have The Secret Commonwealth Book of Dust 2 to read.

Oh no Virginie! That’s awful.

message 19: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments Yes, Virginie, fingers crossed that everything gets fixed sooner rather than later.

Tnkw01 | 2293 comments Mod
Oh, Virginie, I hope the boiler has been repaired.

message 22: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I'm reading Ironbrand by John Morressy. It's an excellent fantasy-sword & sorcery, the first of 4 books that all stand alone well. Nothing really surprising, just an engaging story with all the right tropes, a very relaxing read. He's an overlooked author, IMO. He's written some great SF, too.

That looked really interesting Jim. I've added it to my TBR list.

message 24: by Janette (new)

Janette | 211 comments I've just finished The Blinding Knife which I enjoyed more than the first one. Now I'm onto The Secret Commonwealth. I loved the first one in The Book of Dust but this is supposed to be very different so I will wait and see.

I'm really disappointed with Tower Lord. It didn't seem to fit the series well and I don't like it when brand new "main characters" are introduced so far along in a story line. Especially when it doesn't seem to flow well and there's really no reason to do it. After reading several reviews about the next book I'm done with the series, which is a shame because Blood Song was such a great story. I may start Wrath after I do The Spookshow.

message 26: by Aaron (new)

Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments Finished The Burning White which was fantastic, though I am torn over the final arc. Then finished The Fold in 3 days by accident. lol it was a real page turner for me. Onto Dead Moon which seems to be zombies on the moon, who could complain? lol

message 27: by Virginie, Meow. (last edited Nov 18, 2019 01:50AM) (new)

Virginie | 898 comments Mod
... Zombies on the moon?!? That sounds both so stupid & exciting haha :D
Ex-Heroes by the same author is on my shortlist. Has been pitched to me as "superheroes in zombie apocalypse" lol.

message 28: by Aaron (new)

Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments lol, right? I'm not sure where it's going yet. It's part 3 of a series, but is also set 200 years in the future and this is the first mention of zombies. But I am still enjoying it so far. I will probably give Ex-Heroes a go as 1) that sounds awesome and 2) I am enjoying his works so far. I highly recommend 14

message 29: by Elise (new)

Elise (ghostgurl) | 1028 comments Finished The Bloodprint. I really liked it. Now to finish the Impossible Times trilogy with Dispel Illusion.

message 30: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments Finished (and adored) The Starless Sea and am moving on to Howard Andrew Jones' For the Killing of Kings.

Read The Spookshow. It was ok. Too short but creepy. It would have been a great Halloween read. Now I'm reading Elven Winter. It's actually really good. I didn't realize that it's book 2 in a series but I'm not lost and it reads great.

I like it’s cover.

message 34: by Janette (last edited Nov 24, 2019 07:29AM) (new)

Janette | 211 comments I finished The Secret Commonwealth which I loved. I want to read the next one right now to find out what happens next to Lyra.
Now back to the Lightbringer series and on Book 3 The Broken Eye I am reading the series but am reminded of why I gave up when the books first came out. The plots are great and I love the world building and magic system but I just don't care about any of the characters. Not sure why but that makes the books quite hard to read for me.

I did the same thing. It took me six months to get through Tower Lord, and that was only because I switched to audio. That wasn't a great idea, as the narrator made it worse.

I really like the cover of book 2. I've been seeing it here or there, it really nails the "oh hell, that's a big one" sentiment :p

It really was not that bad of a story, it actually was a good military fantasy but it did not fit the trilogy.

message 40: by Elise (new)

Elise (ghostgurl) | 1028 comments Finally finished Dark Age. The violence and length was excessive. I couldn't wait for it to be over. Wasn't too happy with this book. I'm not sure I want to continue with the series.

Started A Little Hatred. I think Abercrombie's got another winner here. :)

I've posted that I'm reading non-fiction in here. You have to work a little harder to get to full-blown traitors status.

Well, if we're confessing to reading non-fantasy stuff... I'm reading cheesy shoujo mangas :D

I honestly think some non-fiction is fantasy. LOL.

message 47: by Janette (new)

Janette | 211 comments I tend to switch between crime fiction and fantasy😀
Have finished The Broken Eye although it was an effort. Not sure why I find them so difficult to read as I really enjoyed the Night Angel trilogy.

message 48: by Janette (new)

Janette | 211 comments Now reading Black Wolves . I have read it before and really enjoyed this world. It's a shame that the rest of the trilogy doesn't look as though it will appear.

message 49: by Janette (new)

Janette | 211 comments Had a look at For the killing of Kings on Amazon. Currently selling at £21 with a delivery date of 1 - 2 months so shan't be reading that one just yet!

I've finished my re-read of The Crown Tower just in time to get to the newly released Starsight. The narrator (Sophie Aldred - UK version) really delivers the humorous moments perfectly.

In ebook, I'm still reading Worm. I'm on track to finish this 7000 pages monstrosity before 2020! :D
