I'm glad I opened this link. I don't usually read lists like this b/c, IMO, they are usually books that either critics, reviewers or publishers have recommended. But I see that this lists includes comments and posts from your average joe who has read them and posted their thoughts on FB.

I too was struck by the heartfelt comments by readers. I'm so glad to see A Tree Grows in Brooklyn on the list -- that would be my entry. I loved it so very much when I read it as a child and thought my life was terrible because my parents had yelled at me or my siblings were being mean. It made me realize that other people -- other kids, specifically-- had lives that were way worse than mine. It made me a more empathetic person. Also, I could identify with Francie because my grandfather was an alcoholic and I watched him deteriorate over time due to his drinking. I still go back to my worn, tattered copy every so often as an adult. It's like falling into a warm hug every time I read it. And I still cry.

Loved seeing Anne of Green Gables at the top of the list. I always admired Anne, and felt like the characters were my friends. It's a big reason I fell in love with reading, and in fact the first thing I can remember reading.

Also adding An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth, looks inspiring and relevant.

Amy, I loved the movie, too.

In NYC there was a TV show Monday-Friday called The 4:30 Movie. My mother watched it most days. I would also watch some of them. That is how I first learned of the book. I read it as an adult and enjoyed it, too.

I love how Francie wanted to read all the books in the library beginning with the letter A and going to Z. :)

I wrote a quote from the book in my journal.
