Does the reverse word have to match exactly if it is contained intact in the new word? I am thinking about Nat - tan, but the book I have found for tan has the word in plural (tans). Would this work?

No, that would not work. It needs to be the resulting word.

Book 1: Read a book with a word in the TITLE that can be read backwards as a new word, such as War backwards is Raw. Subtitles are excluded.
Book 2: Read a book with the backward word that resulted in Book 1 in the TITLE. Subtitles are excluded.
