Tell us about the book you read that passes the Bechdel test

Sonya (thelibrarianin3b) | 18 comments For this prompt I read 'Smile' by Raina Telgemeier. It's a middle grade graphic novel about the author's teen experiences growing up with braces and finding herself and creativity.

It passes the Bechdel test since Raina is the main character and most of her interactions are with other females.

'The Handmaid's Tale' by Margaret Atwood fills this category, and I read the graphic novel version so I am going ahead and counting it here!

I had to look it up but this is what the Bechdel test is: To pass the test, popularized by American cartoonist Alison Bechdel, a work of fiction needs to 1) have two women with names who 2) talk to each other about 3) something other than a man.
