Enemies-to-Lovers Recs discussion
Introductions?
Lol explosions (sorry, I just had to say that)
Hi welcome! This is a brand-new group so it's still trying to find its footing right now, but I'm really glad you started this post for us.
I also love this romance trope; it's definitely my favorite one. I'm newer to the romance genre as a whole, but I've really enjoyed the ones I've read so far and am eager for more recommendations.
My name is Danni and I'm currently a student who has a passion for writing and reading. I love rom-coms and psychological thrillers, and anything that combines a thriller with a romance is right up my alley.
I'm not sure if anyone else is going to introduce themself at this point, but please feel free to do so so we can all get to know each other better and make this group more active!

I, for one, am not a fan of this trope. To be fair, I'm not a fan of most romances to begin with. As cold as it might sound, I feel romance gets overused as every piece of media seems to possess it. Beyond that, the relationships aren't developed well and come off as forced or toxic.
To that, many of the so-called "enemies-to-lovers" tend to hold these qualities. Note that I say 'many,' not 'all.' As I said, I am open-minded if an example can be found that is well done.
One important quality I believe is needed in order for this to happen is finding common ground. Zuko from the Avatar: Last Airbender series is a great example of this working if he were to have entered a relationship with Katara. He had a well-developed redemption arc. That's not to say the hero can't turn to the enemy's side, but I feel that's harder to do well.
Anyway, can't wait to see how this community develops!
Thank you Bailey for joining us (even though sometimes I’d like to smack you; love you too bro)!
I see that we have now segued from introductions to thoughts on the trope itself. All thoughts are welcome and healthy discourse is welcome. I think I’m gonna start a new thread for this specific debate to continue on.
Everyone, please weigh in!

I'm Nastja. Originally from Russia and currently live in Moscow. I've worked in film and television most of my adult life. Graduated from the Vancouver Film School writing program in 2015.
Enemies-to-lovers is definitely a favorite trope of mine; always on the hunt for new titles. I'm a fan of UF, fantasy, sci-fi, dystopia, darker romance, and the occasional romantic comedy.
I'm a bit of a picky reader and tend to look for a strong plot, interesting world-building, and character development to go with the romantic sub-plot. Slow-burns are the best, which is why discovering a good series is always thrilling.
Hope to get to know everyone and chat about our faves :)
Happy holidays!

Is Serpent and Dove a real good enemies-to-lovers story because I've been wanting to read it but I want to make sure that the trope is a big part of the storyline first?

you will love them! If you havent read them already that is
Alright, I could probably get behind that!
I would recommend reading “The Kiss Thief,” also by LJ Shen, if you haven’t already! Bonus: the cover is jaw-droppingly gorgeous

I am reading Asher Black by Parker S Huntington at the moment.. But the enemy dynamic shifted too soon for my liking..
What about you @danielle

@sharon and ginger
Nothing enemies to lovers at the moment! I am reading a romance novel now though called “Destiny’s Embrace” that does have a good slower-paced romance, but it doesn’t fall into my usual tropes.
And is KU kindle-related, because if so, I still buy physical books instead.

I still buy physical books, but I buy ebooks too and I have an app that lets me borrow books from my local library. I also still prefer physical books overall, but sometimes the app is more convenient. Just depends what I'm doing.
I'll check out Destiny's Embrace. Thanks. :)

Yes.. Everything's on KU... KU is a dream.. Have you finished all LJ Shen and Penelope Douglas?

No, but I will definitely check those out. Thanks ^_^

It's been 3(ish) years since I 'properly' read (aka: won't put the book down, sleep, do anything other than read, etc. until the book series is complete) and got into it again during lockdown! I absolutely love the enemies to lovers trope - mainly because most of the time it isn't really very enemies and I guess the chemistry between the characters is always insane.

I would love it too if more people joined this group because it would be great to have more active discussions! This could be partly my fault since I am the moderator, but I knew I really wanted to start a group like this because I couldn't find any others that are centered around the amazing trope. Spread the word about this group and if we grow in numbers, I'll get a co-moderator who'll hopefully make this group more lively and popular!
Also, welcome to the group! We're excited to have you!

Hey Elizabeth.. Welcome.. I love this trope as well.. What did u read last?? My last read was "You can have manhattan" By P Dangelico.. So good!!!

I just finished "We Hunt the Flame" by Hafsah Faizal! I really like reading fantasy and it was a wonderful mix of fantasy, action, and romance. The main relationship is just the epitome of enemies to lovers troupe and I was absolutely living for it. It's sequel isn't coming out until January though, sadly.

Jaymin Eve- Shadow beast series, SAecret keepers series, Supernatural Prison series. Enjoying this author atm!

My favorite genres are historical, mystery, and fantasy, but I'm weirdly picky with all of them. Enemies to lovers is my favorite trope (Obviously! 😄)

My favorite genre is paranormal/urban fantasy romance but I also really enjoy YA as long as it has romance. "Enemies to lovers" is one of my only criterias when I'm looking for a new book to read and most of my favorite books have this trope. I also like to read new adult/adult contemporary romance (again, if it is enemies to lovers...) sometimes. :D

Here are my fav enemies to lovers ships:
Reylo(Rey&Ben from the sequel Star Wars trilogy) I will forever and ever be pissed at JJ Abrams for that ending
Elizabeth&Mr. Darcy a classic one for sure although I don’t consider them enemies at all😅
Jude and Cardan again a classic haven’t read book 2 and 3 but I still absolutely love them😍
Feyre and Rhysand another popular choice I know
Alina&the Darkling another one where I just wanna rip off the authors head for that ending

I love plenty of genres but I'm mostly fond of fantasy and anything set in the 19th century, but if the heroine falls for the brooding villain/byronic hero that offers her everything, it becomes an instant favorite (but please, let me have a happy ending!)
Nice to meet everyone! I'm happy to be here ❤️
