Cath Russell | 13 comments I'm going for Pike's Peak this year, instead of Mont Blanc. This is because I have a lot of chunky books to get off Mount tbr but can't imagine I can read 24 in one year... so 12 it is.

1. Travelling Light - Alastair Sawday
2. The First Cadfael Omnibus - Ellis Peters
3. Dashing for the Post - Patrick Leigh Fermor
4. The Outsider - Frederick Forsyth
5. Pole to Pole - Michael Palin
6. To Say Nothing of the Dog - Connie Willis
7. The Woman in White - Wilkie Collins
8. Footnotes - Peter Fiennes
9. To War with Whitaker - Hermione Ranfurly
10. The Village - Marghanita Laski
11. Once Upon a River - Diane Setterfield
12. The White Road Westwards - 'BB'
13. Jack - Geoffrey Perret
14. Atlantic - Simon Winchester

Cath Russell | 13 comments I know, Alanna... they take such a long time to get through! Thought I'd give it a go though, but it's the reason I'm going for Pike's Peak this year rather than Mont Blanc.

that's why this year i've decided to set a weekly goal and after an "easy read" start chipping on a chunkster . . . the next week, set it aside until i finish my easy read and then bk to my chunkster . . . hoping this may help me to get through some of them rather than plod slowly thru and get frustrated?

Cath Russell | 13 comments The way I got through Moby-Dick in Nov/Dec was to set myself a goal of reading 20 pages a day. In fact I ended up reading more like 30 to 40 and it went surprisingly quickly. I read easier books alongside it and because it worked so well that's the way I'm going to approach the chunky books this year. Of course it means I must concentrate less on numbers of books read this year but actually that's no bad thing.

Cath Russell | 13 comments Thanks, Leslie, and the same to you. I love starting a new year of reading, the potential for joy really excites me. :-)

superawesomekt | 63 comments Moby Dick is on my list this year, thanks for sharing your strategy. I'll give it a try!

Cath Russell | 13 comments Karren: Well it certainly worked for me. I honestly don't think I could've read it exclusively as the text is quite challenging and fries your brain if you read it for too long. I was surpised at how quickly I got through it using this method.

Cath Russell | 13 comments Thanks, Leslie. Think this is the earliest I've ever finished, mind you it is only 12 books. :-D
