Friday
Have been having a Giordano Bruno fest in November. Having discovered Heresy and Prophecy courtesy of One Click Audiobooks I have been listening to the third in the series while driving between appointments today and now really don't want to stop listening.
Sacrilege by S.J. Parris 75 pages
Into the Blue by Robert Goddard 64 pages
Finished the book, an easy and engrossing read. Have read quite a few Robert Goddard over the years and always enjoy them immensely. This is quite an early one in the canon.
Friday's total : 139 pages
Saturday
Returning to Arctic and Antarctic Exploration (as our boiler has completely packed up this seems appropriate to instil a spirit of fortitude and to remind me that however cold it gets things could be a LOT worse)
Cold: Extreme Adventures at the Lowest Temperatures on Earth Ranulph Fiennes p.86-106 : 20 pages
From real life adventurers to fictional ones...... Enter Rook Barkwater.
A few years ago I discovered the wonderful Edge Chronicles written and illustrated by Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell. Vox has sat on a bookcase for at least 3 years unopened. So today I am returning to The Edge..... But what is this ? Sanctaphrax is in a very bad way..... In fact it is being held up ....held up ..... by a forest of wooden scaffolding..... And something is very wrong with the weather....
Vox by Paul Stewart p.11-63: 52 pages
The Mad Hatter: The Role of Mercury in the Life of Lewis Carroll
So it seems that most if not all of those Victorian eccentrics were regularly taking mercury (in the form of Calomel or through the blue pill or both, mercury ointments were also commonly used) on the advice of their physicians. Finished the book today. Lots of information ponder on and excellent references.
31 pages.

Even if I didn't do very well in this read-a-thon, I actually read the last pages of 2 books I started earlier and finishing these I completed my challenge for 2014, yay!
I finished
The Moon and Sixpence by W. Somerset-Maugham
and
The Magician's Nephew (Narnia) by C.S. Lewis.
And I read a bit more of
The Fellowship of the Ring (LOTR) by J.R.R. Tolkien.
I didn't have that much time to read, but I enjoyed what I read quite a lot!

Laura, I didn't manage to get any reading done. I spent all Saturday applying for the next stage of my training and then yesterday was out all day. Sorry but well done everybody else!

Late but we finally made it!!!!
From Friday November 28th at 12.01am (in your local time zone), you start keeping track of how many pages you read until Sunday November 30th at 11.59pm. In November Read-a-thon thread you will post your progress, telling everyone what you're reading and how many pages. Then all readers' totals will be tallied on the Monday to reach the goal of 20,000 pages. This is a relaxed read-a-thon; it doesn't matter if you read 20 pages or 100, it also doesn't matter if we reach our goal, it's just having fun doing what you would normally be doing anyway:)
Once the thread is posted in book Chat, make sure reply to the event or put your name on the thread if you would like to be included. If you simply stumble onto the thread, then please, join in!
*An easy way to keep track is using the Currently Reading feature on Goodreads, entering your page number at the end of each day.
**For those who read by eReader, take the page number which shows for paperback/hardcover here on Goodreads for your total.Calculate by percentage to work out your page number read.
***For audio listeners, check out how many pages the book has on Goodreads, then divide that number by how many CDs or hours it is to give you an idea of pages per time.
If you respond 'Yes” to the event invitation , please don't forget to list totals in November Read-a-thon thread in Bookchat. Don't forget to post your totals of daily or full week end tally on the thread.
As you've seen, in respect to the invitation I just sent I decided to raise the stakes to 20.000 pages. Will we be able to get there? The more we are the easier it will be! And being so late, it could be difficoult. But I like difficoult tasks.
As last time I'd like to use the method of editingt each of us our message, so we are present in this discussion only once, with all the pages ...
So now you sign up, and in that comment you update your reads ...
