iirc i read it in the mid 2000's
So to recap:
As i said before there was an evil race that had subjugated the elves and they were their servants, now did the race die out or was there a fight but in any case that race is no more.
The elves are free but remember their overlords not really kindly.
Now here comes this boy(or they aer friends that start on some sort of adventure) and in the book one boy(TThomas, Valent???) finds some sort of armour/sword from these old overlords and starts to change appearance and gain strenght/power. In the book a dragon/dragons who were used by the old race and were controlled and that boy also gains the power to ride/control the dragon..
If someone can put me out of my misery with the name i would be eternally grateful
