Classic novels (pre 20thC) - April 2015
This book has been on my TBR for a long time and I have to say it could have stayed their.Carmilla. It was ok but I hope when I get around to reading Dracula it is better.
Young Goodman Brown by Nathaniel HawthorneHawthorne's 1835 classic tale of a young Puritan's meeting with the Devil.
Travel / Exploration - May 2015
I went forThe Ice Balloon: S. A. Andrée and the Heroic Age of Arctic Exploration. The story of S A Andree who tried to go to the north pole by balloon with 2 other people in 1897. They didn't make it but on their journey of 4 months they made lots of notes of what they saw and took lots of photos. Their bodies where found 30 years later.
Tuvalu Where The Hell Is Tuvalu?: How I became the law man of the world's fourth-smallest country by Philip Ells. A book about a lawyer that does 2 years voluntary service overseas work. Philip talks about the people he meets and the work he does and the things that happen around him.
Poetry - June 2015
Have to say I am not really into poetry though I do have a couple of fravorites but cant see me reading a complete book of them. So for this I have read A Children's Treasury of Milligan: Classic Stories and Poems by Spike Milligan by the man himself Spike Milligan complete with being illustrated by him. This book is an anthology of 6 of his books and have had a great laugh reading them.
Psychiatry / Madness - July 2015
Finished Carrie byStephen King, was not like I thought it would be. This was about a young girl who is telekinetic and the world gave her a bad deck of cards for life. Her dad and more so her mum are fanatical religious nuts tormenting Carrie at ever turn, the kids a school found her to be an easy target. She found her TK and lost it at the school dance after the latest joke is played, wipes it out along with the kids and then the town and her mum before she dies.
Sci-Fi / Distopian Fiction - August 2015
The War of the Worlds is done and I have to say I really enjoyed it. I liked the way he tell you what he's seeing and how it affects his outlook on it. Have a question did his brother make it home?
Romance / Erotica - September 2015
For Romance/erotica I have chosen Unraveled, A romance between to marshal arts teachers mixed in with a bit of Doms & Subs.
Young Adult / New adult - October 2015
Well read Hatchet and so enjoyed it read the next book The River. Hatchet is about a 13 year old boy who has to service in the Canadian wilderness for 54 days before he is found.
The River is about the government wanting him to go back 2 years later and show them how he survived it. He ends up having to save the life of Derek the man that went with him.
Magical Realism - November 2015
Went with The Ghost Rider and I have to agree with Liz it did not hold me and the end was kind of irritating as it for me did not answer what happened.
Then went onto The Vet's Daughter which was about a girl who had a crap life and could levitate. Not much better but at lest made sense.
Christmas / Winter read - December 2015
Have just finished A Dog Named Christmas. A YA book about a mentally challenged boy that lives on a farm with his parents that hears about the local animal shelter that temporary home dogs for the Christmas week. He sets out to find those animals homes and takes on a dog he calls Christmas. Lovely book a nice one for the kids to read.
Finished Christmas with Tucker the second book in the series. Goes back to the fathers first dog and how he came by him when he was herting from the loss of his father. An other lovely writen book for YA.
Finished Letters from Father Christmas by J.R.R. Tolkien. I really enjoyed this book, a nice one for the kids. Tolkien pull you into santas world by his yearly letters to Tolkiens kids complete with drawings.
Western - January 2016
Well read Roped In by L P Dover, it had some cowboys in it but it was more of a thriller thing with storkers, a country western singer and the Irish mafia in it. Some of it was on a ranch (about a third) with horses so does it count?
Read Eagles Rest byD. E. Jeffery about a gun man heading home after tens years of constant travel living off his gun to the family ranch. Read like a B rate movie but I did enjoy it.
20thC American Classics - February 2016
Just finished Close Range. Fond some of the stories to be very moving. Wyoming seem to be a depressing place to live.
Horror / Gothic / Ghost-stories - March 2016
Runaway Vampire by Lynsay Sands. Counts itself as a gothic book funny but not up to the standard I expect from Sands.
The Canterville Ghost - Oscar Wilde Am adding this one to here as a ghost story. A lovely written story of a ghost and young girl.
Crime / Detective (includes true crime) - April 2016
Read Norwegian by Night by Derek B. Miller for this, came across it by accident, really enjoyed it. An old man of 80 helps a young boy of 6 when his mother is killed.
Film Tie-ins - May 2016
MASH: A Novel About Three Army Doctors by Richard Hooker. Very funny
The African Queen by C.S. Forester. I think I like the film better for the ending.
Just finished Goodbye Mr Chips A lovely gentle story about Mr Chips an unassuming teacher with a great heart and sence of humour in a private school
Espionage / Spy - June 2016
Finished Arctic Wargame by Ethan Jones, was quit a quick read. Russians against the Canadians through the Danish, fights, guns stolen helicopters and spies. Did enjoy it though.
Finished at lastA Colder War. This book didnt do it for me. Spies in Turkey dropping each other in it.
War / Revolution - July 2016
Target America by Scott McEwen a story about terrorists attacking USA with nuclear bombs
The Yompers: With 45 Commando in the Falklands War This was about the Falkland war. Not a quick read as if was all information about what was happening the people and what they did but still a very good read. Think I would be happy to read another book like this again though.
Award-winning Books (Booker, Orange, Pulitzer) - August 2016
Am putting The Dead Lake down for this. It one the independent foreign fiction prize. A strange compelling book that held me.
Graphic Novels - September 2016
My first venture into Graphic Novels. Well have now read Saga, Volume 1. Really enjoyed it but am pissed as yet again another book that is not complete. Have also learnt they need to be read in paper form not kindle/computer.
Have just finished Saga, Volume 2. This stuff is kind of addictive isn't it. You have to wonder about a mind to come up with drawings like that.
Have finished The Fixer: A Story from Sarajevo while waiting for the rain to stop. Did not realize it was a non-fiction book. Tell to story about the war in Bosnia. Didn't think I would learn something from a comic.
Historical fiction - October 2016
Have done two books so far, The Wanderer: Highland Soldiers 4 Scottish historical romances set during the turbulent Covenanter times of 17th century Scotland.
And for new history set in the seventies Everything in This Country Must: A Novella and Two Stories. Set in Ireland, 2 short stories and a long one. Beautifully written about the unrest of the time.

Just finished How a Boy Survived Genocide: Living with Hope the story of a teenager facing war and famine yet still managing to keep his faith. Can't imagine going through what he has.
Christmas / Winter - December 2016
One Wish one of Santas elf's goes to a man who has lost faith in Xmas after a road accident and is granted a wish. Sweet short story.
Just finished this Flay. Has nothing to do with christmas but the story of a mass murderer runs through the time frame.
Comedy / humour January 2017
The Nose The story of a man who looses his nose.
Gay & Lesbian - February 2017
Rough, Raw and Ready by Lorelei James a story about to gay cowboys men how come back together again along with a wife.
Shadow's Seduction by Kresley Cole, this paranormal book tells of the relation of a demon who denies his want of a vampire. Not Coles normal storyline her 1st M/M in this series but I think she covered it well.
Fantasy / Folklore - March 2017
Have just read Water Bound for fantasy, its about Rikki, an Autistic sea urchin diver in Sea Haven. She has always felt an affinity for the ocean, and is able to control water.
Tales of liechtenstein Then and Now This book covers folklaw and history of Liechtenstein Then and Now. We hear about the wars that happen and the history of its people.

Medium – Read any 4 tasks
Aimed to read 4 books for this but did 7 books so am happy.
☞ Read a fun/quirky book that you could devour at the poolside or on the beach -

☞ Read a book that begins with a letter found in COOLER if you are ready for Fall -

☞ Embrace the season of learning by reading a book where the main character is in school -

☞ Honor Summer's passing by reading a longer book (350 pages or more) -OR- read a "hot" novel. -

☞ Read a book with a cover that is 50% or more Red, Orange, Yellow, Brown, or Dark Purple (think of the changing leaves). -

☞ Read a book that starts with a letter found in PUMPKIN SPICE. -

☞ Read a book that takes place in a different country than where you live -

➑ It's getting to be sweater-weather time! One of the best things (in my opinion) is curling up with a good book on a rainy day.
☞ Read a book that features water on the cover (in any form...rain, ocean, river, in a glass...) -OR- Grab a book with 150-250 pages that you could read in one rainy day.
