Storm | 3 comments A goal is just that - something to aim for so I will try for Zugspitze and with a bit of luck, read some in German too 😏.
Nice challenge, thank you. Looking forward to it.

Barbie (barbieofmpls) | 7 comments I'm going for level 3/Zugspitze also. I figure I should be able to do at least one a month.

Britta Böhler | 104 comments Read my first German book of 2020.

A debut, on the Deutsche Buchpreis-Longlist in 2018, and I quite liked it. The ending was a bit abrupt, hence 3.5*

There is a Dutch translation available that I intend to read. I had it in my hands last time I was in the library, but I had already reached the maximum number of books I could borrow.

Johanna (johanna_paulina) I also want to read it, hopely I like it more. Why it's not yours?

I didn't like the writing (I thought it was 'bloated') and the story was strung together by too many unbelievable coincidences and muddled with too many details that didn't have any significance at all. But I hope you will like it better than I did!

Not my cup of tea either.

It's huge, and hence sometimes it drags a bit, but the story of a Jewish family in Germany in the first half of the 20th century is still more than worthwhile.

Well-written and about a very relevant topic (racism in Germany) but not quite succesful as a 'novel'.

Britta Böhler | 104 comments So, I made it all the way up to the Zugspitze! And with almost three months left, I might be able to climb even higher...

Which means I have moved this folder to the next level: Großglockner!

message 30: by Britta (new)

Britta Böhler | 104 comments Book #16
I reached the Großglockner. Yeah, me!

Not my cup of tea, too moralistic and the author is what I would call in German 'geschwätzig' (talks too much).
