I am sadly lacking in knowledge of world history and Animal Farm got me really interested in the characters and setting the story represents. Some research now has me knowing more about Stalin and other players of the time. It hasn't changed my worldview but it has increased my realization that communism looks great in its ideal form ..... but it is vulnerable to corruption by those in power leading to dysfunction and a twisted version of the pure and original intention. And sadly, any form of government has the same vulnerability when power hungry leaders are unleashed.
Though I'm fairly well-educated in world history, I'm no expert in world politics...but I agree with Beth: that a form of government which promises better things is certainly appealing, and any form of government is open to corruption by those in power. This book hasn't changed my worldview, but rather confirmed my belief that a ruling class or individual (pigs in this case) will turn to any necessary means to remain in power. Perhaps my greatest takeaway from this novel is that "All animals are created equal, but some animals are more equal than others" has always been true and will always be true.
Has the novel changed your worldview in any way?
