Fantasy and Vampire Book Club discussion

This is a 2015 Yearly challenge to read at least 26 books, A - Z initial letters of words for Titles, Series, Authors, and/or Characters.

I did these challenges separately in 2013, Lots of Book and a little difficult for certain letters, so...

I decided that for the lowest level
1st level -you can put all the categories together,
2nd level- use only two of the categories, your choice,
3rd level- use only one category (example A-Z of authors)
4rd level- twist... complete A-Z twice once using Book Title and Series title combined, and once using Authors and Character's names, possibility of 54 books
5th level- Complete twice with one category each of either title, series, author, character - possibly 54 books
6th - Complete 3 times - possible 80 books
7th - Complete 4 times - possible 106 books

You can use the same book for separate A-Z lists but not on the same list. Example Midnight Breeds, Kiss of Midnight by Lara Adrian with Hunter as a character's name, could be use on level 7 on the four separate lists. M for series list, K for title list, A for authors and H for hunter. If you were really tricky. You could read 26 books and complete 4 lists, the 7th level. I'd like to see that.

You cannot use the same book for the same list. 26 separate books. You can read two books in a series and use the series name twice but you must read two separate stories.

Post your A through Zed list(s) below as you read them. Move books around as you like to get the list(s) completed.

For titles and series, decide for yourself if you are going to use any word in the title or just the first word. I would ignore the a or the at the beginning.

having a little trouble understanding. so it's the first letter of Any word? or first of First word? and we can complete multiple times reusing a previous book? just having a little trouble and making sure

nvm, rereading it a few times and I see it now.

You can challenge yourself to sticking with the first letter of the first word, but you can use any word, it is your challenge, your choice. For names you choose too if you want to stick to first names or last. I gave up on that. Still I try to use the first letter of titles but find myself fudging on the harder letters, like U for names. Or X for titles.

with the books I read x is easy, someone's name eventually starts with an x. that's where sci-fi comes in handy :-)

Give me a character name that begins with U, I was just lucky the year I did it. X was Xandra but U? Not the easiest for names of authors or characters. Ursula K LeGuin- author and Uilliam MacRieve in the Immortals After Dark series. I was lucky MacRieve came out that year.

You can start but not finish any book as the finish date must be in the 2015 year. ;-) I'm going for the same level.

I don't think I'd complete the author list, so I'll just do the two lists.

Level 4 is just 2 lists. The first you either use the book title or the series title for each entry, you can have a mix of book titles and series title in your final list,

and the 2nd list you either use a character name or the author's name, having a mix of characters and authors. I'm going for first names... or at least trying and, at first, will try to stick to Character Names.

If you are going to stick to just Characters, it makes it a little harder, somewhere between 4th level and 5th, as the 5th level is 2 list but no combining.

my NY goal is to read roughly 122 books so I may try for doing that 4 lists challenge

q for the character names: is it only the Main protagonist(s) or is it any relevant character? I'm reading guild hunter series by Singh and some of her antagonist names start with less common letters.

Any character is fine, especially for those difficult names. Otherwise, I would stick to the main, but it is you choice. I found U to be the hardest for me last time, both with authors and characters.

As for first and last names... that is up to you. Right now, I'm sticking to first names. If you are going to 4 lists, I'd give myself the slack of first and last names, but that is me. :-)

Looking at my first list of name, and then thinking about titles, I have a lot of repeats of letters so not going to be as far along. I have, 4 Bs, 4 Ds as the beginning of titles. :-(. Titles definitely will be harder for me.

i have been really busy with my diploma coursework. i had to have a couple of weeks break from ... well life in general it feels like. my whole last two weeks have been spent completely focused on essays etc.
so glad i have a tiny break before anything is due.
i'm going to cram in as much reading as i can! in the next couple of weeks.

Oh my, props to you, it's so hard to find time to read when you're in school. What are you studying?

I'm working on Diploma of Events in Travel and Tourism, but when i finish that i will be doing events subjects so effectively i'll end up with a double diploma when im done.

hey im doin an a to z challenge with a friend. we got titles and authors ( first names first) can anyone suggest a good book or author beginning with x z and q please can anyone help. I enjoy fantasy. pnr .urban fantasy but will be grateful for anything to complete the challenge. thanks

Lol. I'm just on a big nerdy pirate binge. I've been fascinated since I was a kid and now I'm doing research for a new vampire character. But I am so down for a pirate challenge, Adele. :)

There's The Queen of the Damned . I'm starting to feel like an Anne Rice pusher, I swear I don't work for her. lol

Thanks julia I have read all of anne rice books and I love them. So at least your pushing a great author :-)

ok for Q look at titles with a queen, just do a goodreads search and you should find some. X is a bit harder, but just think of names things with an X. What i came up with is Xander, Xmas Xray.... just do a goodreads serach with your chosen X word and you can find something to read then . Same goes for Z. if you get really stuck consult a dictionary. ... if your still stuck just let us know and we can find more search terms for you..... after all it is a challenge and this is part of the challenge. :o)

great idea, I may use Queen Lavana from Lunar Chronicles even though Queen is not actually her name name.

Do you have a suggestion for U. What words in names. Titles is easy as Under, Undead, Un... but names characters or authors... Ursula, any others?

U characters Amy? that is a toughie.
Ursula is a good one but don't forget Ursa. If your reading any Viking Books you might find some weird names like ulrich.
Ulysses and Una also might be found.

do you still need Q's? queenie, quintin, Quetzalcoatl(from Anita Blake, she was one of the vamps.... but it counts!). Quincy? not many Q's i can think of.

Zita, Zoe and Zeus... that was the easy obvious one! thats all i have.... let me know if you are stuck and i can give you more keywords to look for.

Z is pretty easy for characters. I thought I was so lucky as I got Zev from a Feehan book, but then I saw like 3 more z after. They were secondary but still. If I could remember where from I would post them as suggestions.

I'll check some of the Scottish romance I have on my shelves to see if there are any Ulrich or something.
