We meet Scara Bandaris for the first time escorting Jheleck hostages.

Interesting.

Erikson seems to be setting up a fair number of love triangles early on in this book. I wonder which will end up causing grief.

Who is Scara Bandaris? I didn't recognize the name. Then again I'm bad with names and I haven't read the ICE books..

It's interesting how both Cryl and Enesdia think the other has "grown past" them. Although Cryl loves her in a romantic way, while she loves him like a brother and seems oblivious to his feelings. Her father on the other hand seems to know the truth of it.

Scara Bandaris (view spoiler)[ was the leader of the Tiste Edur who betrayed Sichas Ruin and the Tiste Andii. He stabbed Silchas in the back and trapped him in the Azath house in Letharis. (hide spoiler)]

OH. OK. Hmm. Was (view spoiler)[Sichas Ruin the one that got dug up by the little girl who ended up killing her? (hide spoiler)] I'm awful at names. I thought that guy had another/longer S name..but I'll take your word for it. :)

(view spoiler)[ yes Sichas is the one who kills the girl something with her being a finnest for the Azath house if i remember correctly. I think like most Malazan characters Scara was referred to by different variations of his name by different factions. Think he was also worshipped by the Edur as a god. (hide spoiler)]

Cool. I think the name variations help give depth to the different cultures but it makes keeping track of the characters so much harder.

Not much else to really report on in this one. Certainly worth keeping an eye on those 25 hostages, to see if that develops into anything.

Sandalath is now doing her second stint as a hostage, (view spoiler)[ you'll remember how screwed up she was at the end when she returns to Kharkanos with Withal and the Shake. She goes up to her old room if I remember has some emotional break downs. (hide spoiler)]

Oh THAT's who Sandalath is? Man. I'm awful with names. Then again I only barely recall that scene. Thanks Lee.

I'd miss everything if I was just reading these books on my own. lol.

Did it show that Enesdia Loved Cryl as a brother ?
She said in a certain chapter to her handmaids about her dress: " Do you think he liked it ?" Even after she told him to leave.

I think she was wondering if Andarist would like it.

Yeah, so the reader had no idea who she meant at that time, but she knew who she was betrothed to, and we find out later and can infer that's who she meant. Or at least I inferred that's who she meant.

I'm still not convinced that it's just a sisterly type love she's feeling.

Well if she does have stronger feelings, I don't think she's aware of them. She may love him as more than a brother and simply not realize. That seems a common story line. Not knowing your true feelings for someone until things change.
