Audrey (niceyackerman) | 31 comments For March, read a book that was recommended to you, either from a friend or from the Amazon or GR computers, or anything.

List here what you'll pick and later how you liked it.

I didn't care much for that one. I liked the physics, but the plot and characters were flat for me. You should be able to tell early on if you'll like it.

Sarah B | 264 comments Well I liked Ball Lightning that was the prequel to it..I won't know until I read it. Have you read Ball Lightning by Liu Cixin ?? If not there are lots of other books I can read.

I didn't really like that, either, but I am alone in that experience. I really hope you enjoy it.

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 220 comments Most of the books I read so far were only kind of recommended

Lord, Teach Us To Pray by Andrew Murray 4* 3/4 (Chritian non-fiction: spirituality/Christian life) - my best friend recommended this author and since this one fit a monthly challenge I gave it a try. The content is very good though it's old (South African) English so I struggled with the language. Still I plan to read more of his books soon.

Forevermore by Cathy Marie Hake 4* 3/9 (Christian historical romance) - again my best friend gifted to me Ärztin in Rot=That Certain Spark - after reading it I realised it's part of a series (#4) so I decided to start at the beginning. It took several years to get my hands on the first in series which I read last year. I'm so glad I didn't read Forevermore earlier since the main character is an illiterate woman speaking very flawed English and botched but still working proverbs/idioms/expressions. There were several passages I still wasn't able to understand the full meaning of and can't even imagine how difficult it would've been for me four or five years ago when I had issues to understand the contemporary books in rather easy English.

The In Death series (futuristic romantic suspense/mystery thriller) was recommended by a friend from the Thriller group. This month I read Secrets in Death by J.D. Robb 5* 3/6 and will finish most likely today Dark in Death. Unfortunatelly I'll be current on those I own/can get from library so I hope for a nice deal for the following (the German translation is about eight to nine books behind and I hope I don't like to wait five plus years until they will be available in my library)

Several years ago I got recommended The Academy & My Sister's Grave by Robert Dugoni (police procedural/legal thrillers). I love this series so much I decided to give his only non-fiction book a try The Cyanide Canary: A True Story of Injustice by Robert Dugoni & Joseph Hilldorfer (true crime/legal non-fiction) and started it a couple of days ago. Still it's non-fiction so I hope I'll finish it by the end of this month.

And here another two books I got recommended and started last month but struggle to really get into it but didn't give up on (yet):
The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith (historical detective mystery/cultural: Africa)
Za zamkniętymi drzwiami=Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris (psychological thriller/abuse)
so I hope I'll finish them this month as well.

Finally a parial list of books I got (kind of) recommended I hope to at least start this month:
Enigma by Robert Harris WWII - author recommendation & later direct book recommendation
Panic by Jeff Abbott conspiracy? thriller - author recommendation
Sein wahres Gesicht=Tripwire by Lee Child mystery thriller - author/series recommendation
The Shepherd's Voice by Robin Lee Hatcher Christian historical romance - author recommendation
The Storyteller of Inis Mór: Could a Legend Save his Life? by Brian O'Raleigh multi-genre: mystery, drama, family saga? - direct book recommendation
When God Was a Rabbit by Sarah Winman YA: coming of age

Author recommendation Melinda Leigh - I want read the entire Morgan Dane series (romantic suspense): Say You're Sorry, Her Last Goodbye, Bones Don't Lie, What I've Done, Secrets Never Die, Save Your Breath

Is it more a psychological thriller or rather police procedural/crime centered?

It is more of a psychological thriller. Enjoy Reading, 📚

Thank you! That's what I feared unfortunatelly I'm not big on psychological thrillers but if my library has it or I'll see it for free I'll give it a try.

Montzalee Wittmann (montziew) This is book 2 in the Jackaby series. It didn't take much encouragement to get me to read it after I read book one! Fantastic series! Beastly Bones Beastly Bones (Jackaby, #2) by William Ritter . Beastly Bones by William Ritter continues the Jackaby story. In this book there are creatures that change shape by what they eat. They were kittens that are fish then started turning into fish! That's when Jackaby and Abigail get a call to come to check them out. Jackaby is a detective of the weird. The Commissioner asks Jackaby and Abigail to go to the neighboring town to check out a disturbance at an archeological dig. Things go crazy there! Soon no one is safe!
Lots of twists!

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 220 comments My 2nd half of March recommendations:

Muffin Top & A Muffin Top Christmas by Tabatha Kiss 5* (both) 3/15 - I have no idea how I ended up with this one - most likely some kind of if you liked xyz you could enjoy this one and I'm so glad I read it. It's fun, full of action (fights, explosions but also the sizzling, kindle melting horizontal kind) and has such great characters it's one of my favorite surprises. And the cover for this new edition (with novel and the following novella about this couple) is the best Muffin Top & A Muffin Top Christmas (Sweet Cravings, #1-1.5) by Tabatha Kiss a muffin-grenade-combo *grins* and fits perfectly the content!
This lead of course to Hot Sauce & A Hot Sauce Halloween by Tabatha Kiss 4* (both) 3/26 - it was still very good but not as great as the first one.
Re-read of a book in my favorite series Later Gator by Jana Deleon 3* 3/15 - even if it's my least favorite book it's still fun and entertainng
Harris by Jasinda Wilder 3* 3/15 - another author recommendation and it's not what I expected. I still plan to read the next one in series and hope a full-length novel will be better than this novella
Look Alive Twenty-Five by Janet Evanovich 2* 3/18 - since I requested the next one in series for my library (and this one ended on a cliffhanger) I'll read another one but I'm almost sure that's it for me with this series, I struggle more and more with the characters and find the humor stale and there was not one car destroyed in this book (which was one of my favorite elements, next to Ranger of course) so not looking forward but will give the series a last chance hoping for a wonder.
Jack Reachers Gesetz: Lektionen fürs Überleben=Reacher's Rules: Life Lessons From Jack Reacher by Lee Child 3* 3/19
Die Trying by Lee Child 4* 3/20
Sein wahres Gesicht=Tripwire by Lee Child 4* 3/23 - Years ago I got so many Reacher recommendations I had to look into it myself. I loved the first two or three very much but it looks like my taste changed or they are only good in small amounts. I'll still read the next one I preordered from my library but then I'll let the series rest for several months again.

As usually I only read one of the books I originally planned but at least I enjoyed most of those I actually did :-)
Thank you Audrey for leading this month!
