However, if you've seen "All Our Yesterdays" (TOS: S3E23) and "The City on the Edge of Forever" (TOS:S1E29)you can read Yesterday's Son. If you've seen "Amok Time" (TOS: S2E1) and "Journey to Babel" (TOS: S2E10) you can read The Vulcan Academy Murders. The rest, well...they won't make any sense if you haven't seen every episode of every series and the books which follow. I accidentally read one of them out of order and was very confused.

I'd recommend the Q book I read, The Quiet American by Graham Greene.
For V I'm planning on The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides because I loved Middlesex and want to try another of his novels.
