Familiarize yourself with this FAQ before posting recommendations
May I recommend any book/author?
Yes, so long as they're self-published, indie, small-press or otherwise obscure. No Stephen King or The Hunger Game recommendations since there are countless sites already discussing mainstream bestsellers such as them.
Do I start my own topic when recommending a book?
Yes. For each book you recommend be sure you start a new/separate topic that includes the TITLE and AUTHOR’S NAME. Do not post gimmicky titles or hooks in the topic to “entice” people – you’re not marketing, you’re recommending a book for readers to consider not pitching it to potential customers.
May I recommend a book under multiple boards?
No. Please do not spam a single book across multiple boards. While many books do fall under several genres please pick the most logical/main one it would appear under and recommend it there. Using the examples above: Stephen King’s books would predominantly be recommended under “Horror” while The Hunger Games would be more “Dystopian”.
May I recommend a book I wrote?
Absolutely, so long as your novel is recommended under the right board. Ideally, please be approachable and personable rather than use a copy/paste pitch that makes people feel like they’re being talked at. Again, you’re making recommendations to avid readers who appreciate underappreciated authors not marketing to potential buyers who have no names or faces.
May I recommend my book under multiple boards since it's not just one genre?
No. You know your work best so please pick a single genre it most belongs with and recommend it there once.
Are there any guidelines for recommending a book?
Not really. Speak from the heart, explain why people might enjoy it, refrain from spoiling and always be sure to include links so people can find it.
