9/10
This book is a bit too spread out, which is why it gets a 9 instead of a full 10. There is action all over the world, including places not shown on the maps, which was frustrating to me. And I still need a cast of characters list.
But those are relatively minor things about which to quibble. The important things—a complex, ever-deepening, ever-widening plot; characters who evolve and mature and who are as varied as their species, races, and cultures; enough detail to pull the reader thoroughly into the story without bogging down the action; and magic.
I can’t quite imagine how the author will pull this all together in the final book, and I can’t wait to find out!
