This thread is where you can chat about all things PIFM, ask questions and once books have been read, review your selected reads. A complete free for all.

PLEASE NOTE:

PIFM is meant to be FUN and not to be taken seriously. I would appreciate it if all participants just chilled and not get worked up about voting, who votes, who doesn't, etc. Please bear in mind that some will just want to vote, many don't come on everyday and most of us have time constraints. I just want a relaxed approach to it all and for you all to just enjoy the process! I'd really appreciate your courtesy in this matter. Many thanks.

Welcome Gretchen! It's easier than it looks :D
In the this thread: PIFM - April 2019 Read
you can list a few books you'd like to read this month. It can be as many or as few as you like, Most people seem to post 5.

In this thread: PIFM - Place Your April 2020 Selections
Here, you can vote on other people's book selections I usually open two windows so I can look and type at the same time.
You don't have to hyperlink books but it makes it easier to check out the choices.

Annnd if you have questions or just want to chat, you've found the right thread for posting!

Tonya, there were a couple of different Heart Shaped Box and The Apple Orchard books. Did I choose the right ones? The Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill was good. I've read three of his books and didn't realize for a bit that he is Stephen King's son!

Edit: Now I don't think it's that one because his is just Heart Shaped Box??

Thanks for responding. Then the book with the most votes by other readers is the one I would read? Also, if I am voting on someone else, I would only select one from their list, is that correct? Thanks again.

You got it! If you want you can report back on what you thought of the book, but no one is keeping track and there's no Book Police around. It's all just for fun!

message 13: by Perri (new)

Perri | -43 comments Tonya, I loved The Dry and The Lost Man, don't know why I skipped Force of Nature. I guess I tend to shy away from series, but I did like the main character!

message 14: by Tonya (new)

Tonya (tonyasmith) | 693 comments They are only 3 in that series as of now, but I ENJOYED them all

Have voted for you Tonya.

My current read is The Dry. Just starting chapter four. Not reading as much lately. I'm hoping this will suck me right in.

message 23: by Tonya (new)

Tonya (tonyasmith) | 693 comments @Janet, read all three of those. The Dry, Forces of Nature, and The Lost Man they are all wonderful.

Thank you for your vote also.

Christine Hatfield (christinesbookshelves) | 5526 comments Your welcome Tonya and Tonya I hope your book wins

message 25: by Perri (new)

Perri | -43 comments My Library is closing on Monday so I grabbed Force of Nature and see The Mountains Between Us and The last One are available through library Ebook.

I really stocked up. Pretty scary to be without books and I usually borrow them

message 26: by Mandy (new)

Mandy (penn_y_lane) | 547 comments Looks like Pretty Baby by Mary Kubica for me next month. I've had this one for ages so will be good to finally get around to it which is why I love PIFM!

My library's website and catalogue is offline for 2 weeks from Monday so I won't be able to reserve books or check my dates and I've just noticed they've extended all my current books to 28th April so I've loads of time to read them all now.

Stay safe everyone.

message 27: by Sophie (new)

Sophie | 1126 comments I've just posted my list, a bit late I know! I was debating whether to even post a list because if I have to self-isolate at any stage I may end up reading them all anyway!!! Having started the year in a bit of a reading slump I seem to have got my appetite back for it with a vengeance in the last week or two and with the threat of Covid-19 looming over all of us it seems there couldn't be a better time to stockpile books (rather than toilet roll).

I hope you're all safe and well wherever you are in the world

message 28: by Tonya (new)

Tonya (tonyasmith) | 693 comments Yeah everyone take care of yourselves and your fam.
My winner will be The Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill, then I will read Yellow Crocus

Patricia Bergman (marshop) | 1229 comments I just returned from the store. I needed napkins and paper towels. No paper products or water in the entire store. I was lucky to find dog food. All of the chicken was gone but they had a huge amount of corned beef (thank God). Plenty of cabbage but I grabbed the last of the red potatoes. This is unbelievable.

Would it scare me to read The Andromeda Strain (Andromeda, #1) by Michael Crichton The Andromeda Strain?

message 30: by Brenda (new)

Brenda | 2434 comments Looks like I have a run-away winner in Hunted this month with 5 votes!

New York State has just said restaurants and bars will be delivery or takeout only starting tonight. And gyms, movie theaters, and casinos will be closed. All until further notice. I worry about my mom, but feel sure she’s safer at home where her only contact will be her meal delivery person once a week, and me. So, better that I reduce my contact with people for her sake. So glad I have books on hand and my Kindle. Stay safe everyone!

message 31: by Rick (new)

Rick | 606 comments Brenda - you and your mom should stay safe, well-fed and well-read for the near future as we all try to get through this pandemic.

Thanks, Rick. The pantry is well stocked and so is the freezer. We’ll be fine. We usually take Mom out to lunch three days a week, but now I have to see if our favorite restaurant will stay open for takeouts or if they’ll just close. I hope they don’t permanently go out of business because of covid-19.

How are things in your neck of the woods? Be sure you follow the recommended precautions!

Rick | 606 comments We just returned from a wonderful, month-long [February] trip to New Zealand. Here in suburbs just north of Chicago, it's still winter with snow flurries today, people hunkering down, and socially distancing. I personally do not know of anyone ill and hope that continues.

message 34: by Perri (new)

Perri | -43 comments Western Washington pretty surreal with all but essential services on lock down. Thank goodness for ebooks and social media to help battle gloomy thoughts. I worry about the many businesses and employees who will be hurt economically as well as those with the compromised immune systems.

message 35: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis Hi everyone,
With the social distancing we all need to do, maybe we can use some of the time to do more reading.

This weekend there is a readathon called 24in48. The goal is to read for 24 hours over a 48 hour period. Of course, you can read as much or as little as you want. It is from Saturday, March 21 at 12 am and goes 48 hours. So basically Saturday and Sunday.

It is very low key, no check ins, no requirements, just reading.

So here is the link for more information.

24in48 Readathon

Terrifying!
I am also worried about my students. Many of them get the majority of their food from school (free breakfast and lunch program) and with the schools closed, there are only 20 or so breakfast and lunch pick up places. I am trying to reach and out and check in with as many families as I can via text and email. For some kids, school is their 'constant and safe place'. I hope this ends soon. (For all of us. Elderly, compromised, working class, children)

It's starting to get pretty real in London too. I had to go to work on Mon and Tues because we've had patients to see but public transport was deserted. We're now cancelling all non-essential surgeries and appointments from next week. I had a doctor's appointment this morning and was literally the only person in the waiting room, it was very eerie. I had to go to three supermarkets afterwards to try and get tinned tomatoes so I can make a lasagne for dinner because people are hoarding. The world is going crazy. On the plus side, I'm rather looking forward to being at home a lot more and being able to read lots and Netflix binge! The book I'm reading at the moment, The Girl in Red, is freakishly reflective of what's going on at the moment which is a little frightening!

Patricia Bergman (marshop) | 1229 comments Since California is on lock down, I have spent my time reading and baking. I am going to hide my bathroom scale when this is all over.

The sun came out today. I think I will join you in gardening. The soggy soil will be easier to weed now.

Dana (dkmckelvey) | 623 comments Hello everyone! Just checking in to see how everyone has been doing with all the covid stuff. So crazy and interesting to hear how everyone is fairing in different parts of the world. I am self isolating because I had my little baby girl Blake on March 14. Hoping to start reading again... this would be the perfect time for it. Take care everyone!

I'm loving Force of Nature, so glad to get back to it. It seems to do fine as a stand alone, although I can't remember how Det. Aaron Falk burned his hand. It seems like it must have happened in The Dry?
