message 4: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 15 comments Deciding between Redeployment by Phil Klay and Thunderstruck by Elizabeth McCracken, which could not be at further ends of the funny/depressing spectrum. Guess it will depend on what kind of mood I'm in when I get to this task :)

Lauren Henderson (laurhender) Margaret Atwood just released her first short story collection in several years, Stone Mattress: Nine Tales. I've had Atwood on my radar for a long time but never actually read anything by her, so this will be a good way to get into her books.

Elisabeth (eangus) | 6 comments On Jan 1 I read The Assassination of Margaret Thatcher - I had only read her novels before (Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies) - I really enjoyed these short stories. She is a wonderfully polished writer who never uses a superfluous word or phrase - yet is a master of the telling detail.
