Dragonflight discussion

Hey! I just finished reading Dragonflight #1 and was wondering if I should also read books #2 and #3. Are they important to read before Dragonquest?

As far as I know, Dragonquest is book 2.

I think of Pern as having a core series and side series/books.
Personally, when I re-read the series, I prefer release order (for the core books) over chronological since there is a mystery that the characters are trying to solve and starting chronologically ruins that.

I then try to read the side series where they fit chronologically within the main series.

So for instance, Dragonflight, Dragonquest, (Harper Hall side) Dragonsong, Dragonsinger, (back to core) The White Dragon, (HHS) Dragondrums, (Core) All the Wyers.

Then I normally go back to Dragonsdawn and read them chronologically from that point on.

Renegades of Pern probably goes somewhere around The White Dragon, but I don't care for it so I tend to skip it.
