Our next series buddy read is a novella that was published in the Down the Rabbit Hole Anthology. It's also available on audio. Open discussion begins on the 8th.

New York, 2061. Darlene Fitzwilliams - a young heiress - kills her brother then jumps from a tall building. All the evidence suggests a tragic but familiar murder/suicide case for Lieutenant Eve Dallas.
But when Eve discovers that Darlene has been visiting psychics and spiritual healers, things take a dark and unsettling turn. Someone has been meddling with Darlene Fitzwilliams' subconscious - someone with a gift for hypnosis and a disturbing obsession with Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland.
With husband Roarke and partner Peabody at her side, Eve finds herself falling down the rabbit hole into one of the strangest investigations of her career. One that threatens not just her body, but her mind...

I'm the same way, Michelle. It'll be great for you reading the rest for the first time though!

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 798 comments I'm at least two books behind on this series: I have the books here but somehow, I must need to be on hiatus for a while. I'll either
catch up or skip some.... here's hoping I get back on track.

I hope you can catch up, Charlene. But I understand - I've fallen behind on some of my other series reads.

Phrynne | 366 comments I finished it last night and enjoyed it. It was a first time read for me and although it was very short it still had all the hallmarks of an In Death book. Roarke needs to be cloned and shared out fairly throughout the entire female population. 😉

Hmmm.... the Icoves research is gone ... right? 😜

Phrynne | 366 comments Lol!

This is now a spoiler zone. Feel free to share your thoughts openly.

So - how did everyone like this Alice in Wonderland style novella?

message 18: by Susan (new)

Susan (cruelshoes) | 573 comments it was good for a novella. I really liked the theme pertaining to Alice and Wonderland and how Roarke has to explain this book to EVE. Also best scene for me is when Roarke and Peabody with Mcnab are in the car and Eve is driving and Peabody starts freaking out. Cool and collected Roarke without even looking up just tightens his seat belt. I thought that was very fitting.

lol Susan! I loved that scene too!

Michelle | 2651 comments Loved that scene as well Susan.

I have a love hate thing with the themed books. And it's always the novellas. But the novellas are almost just for the fans. Because who else would appreciate the fact that the stetson and tie is continuing on.

Having said all that it's not always the case that she has a almost slam dunk case. So from that aspect it was great. This case was closed so fast. And it was lovely to touch base with Charles and Louis. Just wished it wasn't in this way.

Barbara "Cookie" Serfaty Williams (goodreadscomcookiew1801) | 1573 comments This was a re read for me. The first time I read it I did not like it but this time I like it. I am not a fan of Alice in Wonderland but this time I saw more into it. Take a psych course and you learn a lot about Alice. I wish I could change my score to a five.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1131 comments I enjoyed this one very much, especially the Alice allusions (It's the literature teacher in me, I guess).

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3059 comments I love this novella. It always surprises me that Robb fits so much story into these shorts. The "bad guys" are crazy characters. I'm an Alice in Wonderland fan. Eve believes Charles and Louise and looks deeper into the death instead of taking the scene at face value.

I love the Roake Eve scenes. I know that's no surprise.

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 789 comments Just finished this one. (Trying to catch up) Even though it was short, I really enjoyed it. I've never really been a big fan of Alice in Wonderland but enjoyed this one. Again, the scenes between Eve and Roarke and Peabody and McNab stand out for me. Also loved seeing Charles and Louise. Even though this was really sad for them.
