The Evolution of Science Fiction discussion

We are soliciting nominations for the June 2020 read for books published during the period 1940-1959, which we are calling "The Golden Age".

SF novels or short story collection/anthologies that have not previously been read by the group are eligible. Please check the previously-read bookshelf & the nomination rules for further clarification before nominating a book.

Previously nominated books from this period are on this bookshelf. You are free to re-nominate them. More qualifying authors & books can be found in this discussion.

I'm suggesting The Day of the Triffids by John Wyndham and I'll also second The City and the Stars This is my first time taking part in this so hopefully I have done this right haha

Jack, a third has no effect, so you are free to second something later, such as if I come up with a brilliant nomination.

I found out the same thing myself. Most of the books I want to read during that period I have already read. So far this would be the one I would vote for since I have it on my PC but never got around to putting it on my Kindle to read.

The winner of the poll was "The Body Snatchers", so that is what we'll read in June.

The poll was very nearly tied, so speak up if you think we should or should not add the second-place book "The City and the Stars". There may not be enough of us to support reading two books and this one could always be read later. Thoughts?....

I think we could read The City and the Stars later. I voted for it but I have lots of other books to read so I can wait a while. But I do want to read it sometime!

Happy to read later, but its definitely on my list.

I've read City and the Stars, and I might have read it twice, I can't remember for sure. I also read Against the Fall of Night, which was the basis for City and the Stars, and I even read Beyond the Fall of Night. Since I didn't rate any of those higher than 3 stars I don't think I'll be reading them a second time, but I'll be happy to join in the discussion.
