I began to sense a change in Sebastian after he learned more about Nicholas Hayes from people who cared about him. Initially, he was told the man was a rogue, murderer and a disgrace. Once he started getting a more balanced picture, Sebastian started being introspective and seeing similarities in his own life. That’s when it felt like he dug in and was relentless in his pursuit of the truth. It’s almost like I could feel the change, which is a tribute to good writing.

Nicholas didn't feel loved and accepted by his father. The same for Sebastian
Nicholas fell in love with Katherine when he was young and wanted to marry her, but family wouldn't allow it. Sebastian fell in love with Kat (often a nickname for Katherine). Hendon wouldn't allow Sebastian to marry Kat.
Nicholas accused of a murder that he didn't commit by men who hated him, Sebastian was accused by Jarvis. Jarvis approved of both men's arrests.
