Camp Half-Blood discussion

Rules for character creation:

- Keep them demigods, meaning half-god. No half-vampire or half something else. There are other roleplay groups for that. This is a Camp Half-Blood group; they NEED TO STAY DEMIGODS.

- If you want to create Greek creatures, there is a Creature Creation thread.

- Keep them Greek please. This is not Camp Jupiter or any other place for demigods, so no Romans or Egyptians.

- You can have as many characters as you want.

- We have a LIMIT of 12 for Big Three children. Only 1 per Big Three cabin. Grandchildren (meaning one parent is a demigod child of one of the Big Three) are allowed. If you don’t use your Big Three demigod (not counting grandkids), (s)he will be downgraded to a grandkid, and grandchildren will be moved up to full-on demigod after a month. (This is first come, first serve. Whoever posts first has the spot. To be fair, we won’t be saving spots for more than 24 hours.)

- We also have a LIMIT of 5 for the Virgin goddesses’ (Hera, Artemis, Hestia) children. The rest of the rules from the Big Three children apply to their children EXCEPT they MUST be APPROVED.

- The rest of your characters don’t need to be approved, but keep in mind that you may be asked to make adjustments based on rules.

~ Personality ~
Around most people, Elana comes off as easy-going, playful, and humorous. She can cheer up anyone with either her warmth or a witty/optimistic remark. Don’t misconstrue her often laid back demeanor for laziness or indifference though. In matters she cares about most, she can be driven, hard-headed, passionate and very sassy. Most of the time, that applies to her work in the forge, in fashion, and sometimes in dance. One of her dreams is to create weapons in the context of fashion. She also loves to try new things and explore the outdoors, so she would love nothing better to go on a camping trip or hiking with her friends.

~ History ~
Elana’s mother Anjelita came from a family where the men traditionally worked in the vehicle mechanics business and the women as dancers or homemakers. She took dance lessons with her sisters and excelled, but she longed to work in the shop alongside her father and brothers. For a short while, Anjelita would come and help after dance classes until her mother found out and insisted that she do the same as her sisters. Her father could see talent in her work, so he reasoned with his wife and Anjelita continued working in the machine shop.

At a young age, Anjelita married her boyfriend Carlos and the couple struggled. He insisted that she take care of their children while he worked as he was the man of the family. There were times that he would treat her badly as well. In the midst of this, Anjelita met Hephaestus, who understood her desire and passion for her work. She, in turn, was compassionate and gentle towards him, so the two of them fell in love and began seeing each other without her husband knowing. There was no evidence until Anjelita conceived Elana. For a while, Anjelita and Carlos raised her as one of their own until the family figured out the truth. Her husband quickly left Anjelita and their children and Anjelita sought help from her family.

About ten years later, Anjelita rekindled her relationship with her ex-husband. They talked of plans to remarry and move in together- including little Elana. Those plans did not last long, however, as Anjelita had conceived another child and the delivery was a difficult one. The doctors were able to save the baby boy, but Anjelita died soon after. Elana’s stepfather was never able to completely move on from her death, so Elana and her half-siblings stayed with their grandparents and the rest of their family and he came to see them occasionally.

Elana, however, grew up to be very much like her mother. She worked in the machine shop with her abuelito and brothers and occasionally went to help her uncles, who had started their own machine shop a little ways from them. As a part of family tradition, she also took dance lessons, but unlike her mother, she loved it. Under the influence of an older cousin, she also took an interest in fashion and began playing around with ideas of weaponized fashion. Around this time, a satyr found her and brought her Camp Half-Blood.

When Kira was nine years old, she and her father were attacked at their house by empousai. Kira alone, due to her lack of training and strength at the age of nine, wasn't able to defeat them in time, and her father was killed.
Her and her older (half) brother, Eris, were taken by child services and sent to a foster home. However, after just two weeks at the foster home, they were attacked by kobaloi, so they decided to run away, trying to save anyone else from being hurt because of them.
While they were on the run, a satyr caught up to them and brought them to camp. Kira was claimed at the campfire 3 nights after she arrived, by Aphrodite, and Eris was claimed as a son of Demeter soon after.

Pyper lived with her mortal mother and her mortal older brother. Late one night, she was lying in her bed, and heard voices coming from the kitchen. She got up to see that it was her father talking with her mother.
However, due to having never met him, she didn't realise it was Apollo, so she got scared, thinking the god was a stranger in her house. She attacked the god from behind, her anger taking over her. Apollo cursed her, not knowing it was his daughter.
Her curse is that every night, she is possessed by an eidolon, making her uncontrollable. By the time Apollo had realised it was his daughter he'd cursed, it was already too late. There is no known cure for her curse.

Eris is the definition of a soft, shy boy. He struggles to talk to people he doesn't know, and he would never initiate a conversation unless it was with someone he'd known very intimately for an extended period of time. In fact, the only person he's actually comfortable around is his younger sister, Kira, a daughter of Aphrodite. He barely ever speaks his mind, and on the few occasions that he does, it's always to benefit Kira, never himself. He just thinks that he's boring, or that everyone has better things to do than talk to him. She and Eris were taken by child services and sent to a foster home. However, after just two weeks at the foster home, they were attacked by kobaloi, so they decided to run away, trying to save anyone else from being hurt because of them.
While they were on the run, a satyr caught up to them and brought them to camp. Shortly after Kira was claimed as a daughter of Aphrodite, Eris was claimed by Demeter. Eris quite often feels guilty, because Kira was so quick to incorporate herself into the camp culture, while Eris still struggles, nine years later.

Aspen definitely feels more comfortable around machines than around people. They're very awkward, and around people, they always seem to somehow say the wrong thing. Aspen's mother is very high up in a successful business and doesn't have much free time at all because of it. Essentially, she was an awful mother to Aspen and was continuously sending them off to childcare of some description or boarding school. Aspen ended up getting themselves expelled from the boarding school, trying to distract their mother from work, but it backfired majorly, and Aspen ended up homeless for a period of time. A saytr then found them on the streets and introduced Aspen to CHB. Currently, Aspen's mother thinks they're away at college.

Cyril is a reserved and introverted individual‬ who prefers to keep to himself, such as reading or writing alone and researching history. He struggles with anxiety that has overcame him for a majority of his early teenage years. He is highly soft-spoken and struggles with speaking and standing up for himself. Although he is passionate about standing up for and defending those who are vulnerable to being oppressed. He is fiercely loyal to his friends which in turns render him sometime vulnerable to betrayal. He is optimistic while naive which causes him to always see the goods in everyone even when he has been betrayed and taken advantage of. He is an easily forgiving person and wishes for only peace in the world. He is also extremely observing and calculative, thanks to his quiet nature that he is able to easily blend into the background and observe his surroundings to his advantage. However, this gives him a cold and stoic image that sometimes causes anyone who doesn’t know him to deem him as unapproachable, even though he is always happy to help whenever approached. Beneath his exterior, he is just a softie who want to be free to loved and be loved and cared for.

Cyril was born and raised in Vienna, Austria before moving to live in Tokyo, Japan and Marseille, France (his father’s home country) at 4 and 6 years old. His father is of Nigerian-French descent while his mother is of Egyptian-Japanese-Native American descent. He and his family eventually moved to live in the US permanently when Cyril was 7 and his twin younger siblings were born. His magical ability manifested around the first time of his arrival to the US. Even though it has manifested in him at such a young age, no one has ever taken notice of it due to the fact that his parent were constantly occupied with works and strange occurrences only ever happening coincidentally whenever no one is paying attention on him. This might’ve been his early ability to sub-consciously control his magic which indicates his massive magical potential. As he grew up, Cyril had always regarded his strange ability as a normality, although he understood that it must be kept only to himself. A number of incidents that happened in his early teenage years which almost exposed his ability sparked a severe anxiety disorder which caused to him to desire to be overlooked in fear of doing the wrong thing and thus exposing his secret. Consequentially, Cyril also involved himself with modern-day witchcraft for a period of time. This is also what sparked his interest in researching into the witch trials in the past. As he dove further into the subject, he discovered his family’s ancestry and learned that a pair of his ancestors were accused of witchcraft and persecuted during one of the early European witch trial. However, this doesn’t necessarily explain his magical ability considering that his ancestors might’ve also just been innocent victims to the trial. It wasn’t until the first time he witnessed the world of Greek mythology in real life, in which he saw a battle between some monsters and demigods as a result of him manipulating the Mist that obscured it, that he began to suspect his true lineage. He manipulated the Mist in order to reach Camp Half-Blood and demigods. Through their helps and his own, Cyril learned of his true ancestry. Cyril is a many generations legacy of the goddess Hecate. His accused witches ancestors were truly demigods and children of Hecate, therefore capable of performing real magic. This magical lineage had slowly faded and became muddled ever since from generations to generations until almost non-existent to the point that the family even has no recollection of ancestors who were involved with the early European witch trials. Magic has almost completely vanished from the bloodline, Cyril is the first in many generations and centuries to be born with full magical abilities. Staying at the camp, the Hecate’s cabin allowed Cyril to stay with them. Although, his magical ability are still not at an impressive level, with proper trainings and experiences, he has the potential to become a powerful magic wielded, even stronger than Hecate’s direct children themselves and many powerful sorcerers in history.

Orfeus is an intelligent and witty person who is generally knowledgeable in everything which helps give him a likeable personality. While he is sometimes easy-going and carefree and likes to goof around, he can also be quite serious and tough at times. He does not care much about others’ opinions just as long it does not get in his way and prefers to get along with everyone and goes with the flow. However, when he is in his serious mood, he jokes less and prefer to focus on getting things done as he is quite a committed and determined person. He always keep his promise and fulfils any duty that is required of him no matter the circumstance. He is still just a sweet and caring guy who is always nice to everyone and can easily understand and relate to someone. Orfeus is quite secretive though, believing that others don’t have to deal with his business and does not struggle to keep secrets if he sees that it is necessary. Sometimes he can be a bit too cunning and loses himself in employing any mean to get his way. He is energetic which fuels his impulsive nature. He is not very good at thinking before doing something which gets him to quite some troubles. Although, he considers courageous and not afraid of many things which further fuels his impulsiveness. Orfeus was born in Vancouver, Canada but raised in Incheon, South Korea until middle grade. From birth, he was blessed by Apollo, as Orfeus is actually the reincarnation of Hyacinth, Apollo’s male lover. He had a good childhood with loving and supportive parent and a close relationship with his step-family, being raised alongside them. He realised his gender identity at a young age but has kept it a secret for most of his childhood. After moving back to Canada, he finally came out to his parent at age 12 and met with supports and acceptance from both his father and step-father. He has a close relationship with all of his adopted triplet half-siblings. He began transitioning the following year. Unfortunately, he was bullied at school during the process which caused his family to have to move many times and eventually even across countries. He made very little friends due to this reason. However, during the transitioning process is when he first connected with his birth mother, the goddess Iris who appeared in astral form, disguised as dreams, offering him helpful advices but he still didn’t know that he is a demigod. He also started social media pages that grew in popularity, sharing his everyday life and interests. He also developed an interest in makeup and drag. Problems began to appear during his teenage years when monsters began attacking not only him but his family. Iris appeared to him again and revealed to him that he is a demigod. He was told to go to Camp Half-Blood which he eventually decided to go in order to protect not only him but his family. He utilised one of his demigod gift of illusion to help convince his parent. Orfeus is incredibly proud of his identity, he considers himself unapologeticaly queer, and has used his platforms to spread important awareness for what he stands for. He is very passionate about standing up for the LGBT+ community and is not having any of intolerance, close-mindedness, ignorance or hatefulness. Sometimes he attends Pride Parades and uses his gift as a child of the goddess of literally rainbow to spice up the events. If people took the time to know here, they would see that she's funny and loves the finer things in life.

History:
Yua's mother is a popular and talented geisha in Japan who met Hades during one of her shows. She fell in love with him and got pregnant. Yua was born in Gion and started training both to be a geisha and to survive at a young age. She was always top in her classes but when she was attacked during one of her dance ceremonies, her mom decided it was time for her to leave. With the help of her mother's danna, Yua made it to camp half-blood safely.
When she was leaving, her mom gave her a beautiful hair pin that had been passed down through her family line.

For the first couple years at camp he got to visit her during the school but when things proved difficult because he couldn't control his powers. He began to stay at camp more. On his 15th birthday his mom had taken him to the beach and they had been attacked. Due him not being able to control his powers his mom did not make it. Although due to an Ex-boyfriend he was able to make amends with that, realizing it wasn't completely his fault. He makes it to her grave every year on his birthday now.

History:
Lavinia grew up in a small town in Wisconsin. It was just her and her father. They lived a pretty simple life. Her father was a florist and Lavinia often helped out as much as a kid could. Her father had made a promise to her mother then when she turned 10 he would take her to camp. He played it off as a fun family trip but little did she know he was going to leave her there for the summer. History: Hestia had been tending the fire in a house, which she resided in to get away from all the family arguments and politics on Mount Olympus, surrounded by woods when she looked into the hearth. She imagined a little girl with yellow and orange flames for hair in the bright blaze. The little girl was sweet and gentle and warm. She made the goddess smile. While daydreaming, the goddess accidentally let the fire die out a little. Just as the blaze was about to die out, Hestia scooped up a handful of embers and flickering flames and attempted to keep the flames alive. However, she was a little too successful in the attempt and not only were the flames rekindled for a moment, but there appeared a little girl in the goddess' hand. As much as she loved the little girl, she could not keep and raise her on Olympus or in the homely house as she was a virgin goddess. She was not supposed to have children. Thus, she left the little girl in the care of a young couple who would raise her daughter as their own. Personality: Banyan is the responsible, sweet, yet awkward older brother. He is also a little clumsy and OCD, In reality, he is not actually that much older than his sister, but he still remembers more of their younger years before their mother turned to alcoholism. This is often an argument between the two siblings as Banyan often will defend their mother while Brooke will criticize their mother's choices and parenting. From a somewhat early age, Banyan would find and care for their mother in her drunk or hung-over without Brooke knowing, understanding that being a single demigod mother of two children was difficult.

Coming from a home with an alcoholic mother, Brooke often ended up fending for herself and being the subject of verbally abusive remarks. She, however, has never been the type to allow anyone to disrespect her, so she learned how to stand up for herself fairly quickly as well as to rebel. In spite of her own decision to be nothing like her mother, she still developed her mother's way of burying her problems in distractions- in her case, video games or card games, partying and hook-ups. She often comes off as sarcastic, feisty, and sometimes brutally honest to point of being brash, but she can also be loyal, resourceful, funny, and protective.

History: Banyan and Brooke grew up on a vineyard since their mother's specialty was in wine. Their mother helped Banyan learn to play his reed pipes and he helped his mother in growing the grapes. Then, Brooke would help harvest them. For most of most of their informative years, they did well. Eventually, however, they went through financial troubles with the vineyards, their mother struggled with her powers, and a few too many monsters found them, leaving destruction in their wake. Their mother spiraled into a deep depression. Many nights, she would stumble in late from bars and her son would find her in a drunken stupor the next morning. Their mother only worsened as Banyan and Brooke grew up. In the midst of all this, Banyan turned thirteen, so their mother decided to send the both of them to somewhere she would not have to worry about them- Camp Half Blood.

At the age of sixteen, Brooke went on a quest with two other campers, but she did not return and was presumed dead. One to two years later, she arrived back at camp from the Lotus Hotel and Casino, exactly the same as when she had left. Everyone else had moved forward, including her girlfriend Kendra. For a long time, there were lingering feelings and arguments- and alcoholism on Brooke's side- following Brooke's return, leading to periods of time when their relationship was on and off.

Hortense has a serious demeanour to her. She is a no nonsense type of person. She doesn’t like to mess around and prefer to perform her tasks and duties well. Being a hundred years old biologically and spending most of her times in the wild with her fellow hunters, she is quite old-fashioned and out-dated and doesn’t quite modern humour. This makes her seem to be even more of a stern person because she isn’t quite able to grasp a light-hearted environment. She is incredibly passionate about things that she care about and is fiercely loyal and protective. She will go to extreme means to ensure the safety of those that she cares about which makes her very self-less, always willing to sacrifice herself for the sake of others. She hates betrayal more than anything in the world, especially to ones that she cares about. Her loyalty makes her extremely trustworthy and reliable about her, many people finds it easy to share their struggles with her. Although her fierce loyalty makes her prone to being taken advantage, those that betrays her better be ready because she will not let them get away with it and will ensure that they will be taught a lesson and never undermine her again. She used to despise men, having live for so long surrounded by mostly women, for their toxic masculinity and the way the society is constructed patriarchally. However, Hortense has learned to become more comfortable with some men, mostly those who are actually nice. She fully supports feminism and strongly believes that women are fully capable of anything, she is passionate about empowering other women to express their confidence and independence.

Hortense was born in the 1900s on her mother’s island. Her mother is Circe who imprisoned her father for many years on her island. Her father was a Japanese immigrant and emigrated to the United States and worked as a sailor. During one of his work duties out in the sea, his boat was lost among the sea and they stumbled upon Circe’s island. Her father and the other men that were on the boat were then imprisoned the island. Soon afterwards, her father formed a romantic relationship with Circe who later became pregnant with Hortense. At three years old, her father was released and moved away from the island, leaving Hortense to live her mother. Growing up on the island, Hortense learned many powerful magical abilities personally from her mother, alongside her other apprentices. Despite the magical lessons that she received from her mother, they had a rough relationship, Hortense wasn’t exactly close with her mother and they often argued. Hortense sometimes even disapprove of Circe’s actions as she grew older. At twelve years old, Hortense finally was able to find a way to escape from the island, she snuck onto a boat that was planning to leave the island. Upon arriving to the United States, she was homeless for many months and struggled severely to adapt to the new environment. She was not accustomed to the way of living of the other people not on the island. She got herself into many troubles by using magic which she eventually learned to conceal from mortals. While away from her island, she also planned to look for her parent, eventually she was able to find him, only to find out that he actually already had a family even prior to him arriving on the island. She also found out she had two half-siblings. Her father allowed to stay with his family for a few month before Hortense realised that she wasn’t exactly welcomed and ran away again to live on the street. While homeless and starving, she met with the goddess Artemis and her hunters at the age of 15. The goddess found out her background, took pity on her and offered her to join her hunters which Hortense gladly accepted and she was immortalised. She was a hunter for a very long time, traveling to many places alongside them and learning many useful skills to survive. She was fiercely loyal to the goddess and became one of the most skilful hunter. Many years later, she finally came to a hard decision to give up her immortality for a mortal life in order to experience normal things because she realised she have spent sufficient times to repay her gratitude to the goddess. For a faithful duties, Artemis peacefully granted her wish. As a mortal, she remained 15 years old in appearance and moved to Japan to connect with her cultural heritage. Eventually, she moved back to America and decided to live in Camp Half-Blood.

Wow, I love her- personality and backstory. I don't know if you read what I said about what characters I could use for the spooky roleplay, but my lycanthrope daughter of Lyssa (Illyana) was tracked by my daughter of Hyperion (Shawna) whose mother she killed. Shawna was saved by the Hunters of Artemis and offered a place among them, but she decided to come to Camp Half-Blood. Maybe we can work that into the roleplay somehow. I can bring her back as a relatively new Hunter or we can just mention that as a way Hortense is familiar with Illyana.

I just had a thought that might help stay consistent to the books. I am not sure most mortals would be able to see her magic through the Mist.

The kill was not on purpose by the way. Children of Lyssa change into wolves with rage and then they don't remember anything that passed during that time. I tried to do a quest for her, so that she could retrieve her memories and try to redeem herself, which was supposed to end up with her going mad. The quest didn't work out, so I am going to just pretend that it happened instead.

Okay, it just sounded like maybe mortals were able to see her magic and that was why she learned to hide it.

While living with her father, she was a temperamental child, quick to fits of bad temper. She often had her way as her father was always distracted with two occupations- working to keep a roof over their heads and trying to reach her mother- and often would give into her tantrums, so that she would leave him to his work.When he did not give into her demands, she would rebel. The case was different when her aunt Millicent took in. When she misbehaved, she was locked in her room without meals or given the most menial chores for as many days as she took to repent. Rather than learning her lesson, she often learned to hide her misbehavior better. Her aunt’s strict standards of conduct and academics and ways of enforcing them often left Melanie gave her a pessimistic point of view, anxiety, and depression. Aunt Millicent was very much like the rest of the town’s people in views when it came to manners and respect but also in homophobia. A valentine from Melanie’s crush fell out of her planner and was soon discovered. Afterwards, the girl’s parents sent her away and when she returned, she avoided Melanie, leaving her to fall deeper into misery.

She still has fits of anxiety and bouts of depression, causing her to feel numb, cry or lash out. Anxiety and distrust keep her from talking to people, but the truth is, beneath the sarcasm and reserve, she is a sensitive soul. One of the only ways to calm her anxiety and express herself is through playing piano, usually romantic era composers like Chopin, Beethoven, and Rachmaninoff, but she also enjoys playing some heavy metal, hard rock, and music from Tim Burton’s movies.


~ History ~
There was a small town in New England- much like the ones ghost stories are set in. Every night, the goddess of nightmares would lead her train of ghosts to haunt the people there, because the ghost goddess delighted in what stories the provincial people’s superstitious imaginations could create. One night, however, she came across a beautiful, sleeping man with beautiful, ebony hair and fell in love with him instantly. She looked into his dreams, seeing a beautiful redheaded woman who he clearly had loved.

The next day, the dark-haired man was walking along the shore of the lake outside the town, wistfully, when an apparition of the same woman in his dream appeared on the water. She was his high school sweetheart who had drowned in that very same lake a couple weeks after they had graduated. He was so amazed and happy to see his beloved again. After that, he came to see her every day until one morning he woke up to find a baby girl on his doorstep. That same day he went out to the lake to see his love, but this time, she did not appear and she never again.

For years, the man tried to find his sweetheart again. Many of the people, including his family, believed him to be insane, searching for a dead woman. He, however, persevered, trying all sorts of methods to contact the dead. She had come back to him before; surely, she could again. When their child was five, he disappeared and never was heard from again, leaving the little girl to be raised by his cold, older sister. Years later, a crippled boy began attending the girl’s private school, soon revealed himself to be a satyr protector, and snuck her out to Camp Half-Blood.

Yeah, I think that this roleplay is definitely worth rebooting my she-wolf for.

Lol Thanks. I wanted to make her different from the rest of my characters- dark and moody, but also sentimental and artsy. I originally thought up her character while listening to Chopin's Scherzo in B flat minor/D flat major and his Ballade in G Minor. I also thought it just made sense that a daughter of the ghost goddess would do something like double exposures in photography.

Well, in the past, I just kept all my characters the same age that I created them, but since returning to roleplaying, I am starting to feel a little differently. I am already starting to do this for the older characters I am trying to reboot where I age them based on how much I have used them. So they aren't eternally the age I created them, but they won't age based on the our time.

When she was thirteen, she went back to visit her family, finding that her mother was working part-time, and looking after her brother the other part.
