Classic Trash discussion

There is an annoying bug right now with the folders. When I add a folder it gets put to the bottom of the list (which is normal.) But when I go to 'edit folders' it only shows me the top 10. since the new one is on the bottom (and not shown) I cannot move it up to the top of the page. I am not even sure how to report a bug anymore. Anyhow, I temporarily moved this topic to the assorted business folder. Argh.

On the top, to the far right just under the Ask a Question green box, there is a Contact Us box. Click on it to get to the email page you fill out with your problem to be fixed. It will take a few days for them to get back to you. Make sure to send a screenshot, because they always ask for one before trying to fix it - even if the bug is that nothing happens when I click something and so the page remains the same. Goodreads has gotten MUCH crappier about helping us in the past year.

So, this was not actually a bug. I dug around in the advanced settings for the group and found a new setting for the number of folders shown for 'edit folders.' Default is 10. Hmph.

I second that emotion.

I just finished the first case, “The Gateway of the Monster”. It was pretty good, although the monster itself wasn’t too terrifying in appearance. The writing is good, and the author does convey a feeling of suspense to the investigation. This is a fun read, if you’re in the right mood for it.

I am midway through that story and liking it so far! This is the first thing I have read by this author.

Just finished the first case. I like this a lot right now: it’s sort of like low-key Poe.

"The House Among the Laurels" - I didn't think this story was as good as the first one, but I liked how it ended. In a collection like this one, it's good for the author to mix things up a bit to prevent the stories from all sounding the same.

Just a general comment:

I like Carnacki. Even though he does alot of research before his cases and has had alot of experience with these things, he's still willing to admit that he could be wrong. Also, he doesn't ridicule others for not believing what he does about the supernatural.

Ok - the horse story was beyond strange. Also, there was a guy running around the house at night with a giant horse mask and fake giant horse hooves? Where did he even get those?

I am three stories in. Dude sure loves his electric pentacle.

Maybe costume stores had them? Can you see the guy going in and asking, “ Do you have a horse mask and giant horse hooves? “

“The Whistling Room” - This story was good. I liked that the reason for the haunting was found when dismantling the room. Also, no electric pentacle was used, so Carnacki isn’t a “one trick pony.”

“The Horse of the Invisible” - This one was pretty bad. It was too long, and the supernatural bit at the end wasn’t really explained. Maybe the author himself got tired of the story?

He mentioned it though. Can’t get enough electric pentacle.

Ha! You are right. I guess he doesn’t leave home without it.

"The Searcher of the End House" - I liked this one. This shows a younger, pre- electric pentacle Carnacki; however, he's still made a few gadgets to help him. I liked the bits of humor thrown into the story. The reason for the child's spirit was creepy and rather sad. No real explanation why the different observers saw different ghosts, though. Maybe Carnacki, being perhaps the youngest person there, had more affinity to the child? I guess we'll never know.

"The Thing Invisible" - This one was a bit longer than it needed to be, and so seemed a little boring. At least no animals were killed.

I have 2 stories left but am spacing them out. Things were starting to feel samey to me.

That can happen with a themed story collection. It's good to put some time between stories.
