To keep filling is not as good as stopping...

This has to be my favorite verses so far. It reinforces that there really is such a thing as too much of one thing - whether good or bad.
You can become so educated that you forget how to approach life with a beginner's mind- open and free of criticalness and skepticism.
You can become so greedy that possessions you so love are stolen away. And because you based your life's worth on those possessions, you can become worthless and insecure in your own eyes.
Seeking balance allows us to appreciate more of what we have and focus less on what should or don't have. Let it go and like the verse says, "retire when the work is done" or know when to quit.

To keep on filling is not as good as stopping. Overfilled, the cupped hands drip, better to stop pouring.
Sharpen a blade too much and its edge will soon be lost. Fill your house with jade and god and it brings insecurity. Puff yourself with honor and pride and no one can save you from fall.
Retire when the owrk is done; this is the way to heaven.
