Bernie takes his son Charlie to the circus, but they find it closed because their star attraction, Peanut the elephant, has gone missing along with her trainer Uri DeLeath. When the police decline to investigate further after believing Uri to have absconded with his charge, Bernie is hired by Popo the clown, who was Uri's partner, to find them.
Another enjoyable outing with Bernie and Chet. It seems to me that whenever the author resorts to separating the two in the course of the story, the plot becomes a lot more unbelievably eye-rolling, ending with Chet saving the day again, but overall it's a small price to pay for the entertainment of the story.
