It is still in my TBR list and I am dying to read.

Dalila Mandić (dalila93) | 98 comments Hi. If you haven't read The mortal instruments, I would advise you to decide if you want to read chronologically or by the series.

I read The mortal instruments first, was amazed and of course, wanted to read all of Cassandra Clare's books. I know you will get the same feeling. So, then I read The Infernal Devices.

I haven't read her other books because I'm waiting to see if they will be translated into my own language, but if not, I will have to buy English copies.

Now, If I could go back, I would advise you to read them chronologically, The Infernal Devices first, then I think it's The chain of Gold (but please check if I am right) and then The Mortal instruments.

If you read The mortal instruments first, then some element of surprise will be gone from The infernal devices, since you'll already know what happened by reading The mortal instruments first. That's why, for a much better reading experience, I suggest you go chronological. :)

Thanks I even saw this order:
1)Mortal instruments(first three books)
2)The infernal devices
3)Mortal instruments(last three books)
Is it okay??

alex (alexthebookish) | 216 comments I guess that would be fine, but I'd probably just go-
1) The Infernal Devices
2) The Mortal Instruments
3) The Dark Artifices
4) Chain of Gold
(I put Chain of Gold last b/c the series isn't complete so I'd read it last)

Dalia | 20 comments I read it

1. Mortal instruments
2. infernal devices
3. The dark artifices
4. Chain of gold

myfortressofbooks | 4 comments I'm pretty much almost caught up with the books (I haven't read Chain of Gold yet but it's on my tbr for 2020) and I would advise the following sequence:

1. The Mortal Instruments (ONLY FIRST 3)
2. The Infernal Devices
3. The Mortal Instruments (LAST 3)
4. The Bane Chronicles (Not my favorite short story collection in the series but there are some good ones in there - I skipped this earlier on and read it only recently)
5. Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy (Has major happenings plot-wise so it's best if you do read this)
6. The Dark Artifices
7. Ghosts of the Shadow Market (Also has major happenings)
8. The Red Scrolls of Magic (The Eldest Curses #1)
9. Chain of Gold (The Last Hours #1)

Hope this helps and wasn't too confusing! It may seem like a lot but these books are very enjoyable once you get started.

PS: The titles underlined are short story collections.

Thank you, Myfortressofbooks! I've heard to read it in that order too!

myfortressofbooks | 4 comments You’re welcome! 😊

Tisha (theyaqueen) | 110 comments That's actually the order most people read it in, but I read all 6 TMI books first, then TID, TBC and TDA...I just feel like this builds more suspense in your mind as to who Brother Zachariah is, and what Magnus had with Will. And then you reread it chronologically, maybe? Just my opinion. Now to the actual series.
City of Bones was the first Cassandra Clare book I read, and I absolutely loved it. After reading the whole series, I can see that her writing in The Infernal Devices and Dark Artifices is better, but I still love TMI! Who wouldn't, with Jace, Alec and Magnus? If you haven't read TSC, this is definitely the starting point, and I can almost guarantee that you won't be able to put it down!
