This one is very intriguing. I came across it a few months ago. I don't remember if I posted it anywhere:

P.J. O'Brien | 114 comments I just stumbled across a twisty fun vein of works on Smashwords by author Sarina Dorie. I'm currently reading her The Day of the Nuptial Flight which is about a drone bee who ... well, read the blurb, though that doesn't seem to be as funny and earnest as the story itself.

I've also recently finished some of her other shorts that are free now on Smashwords. She does have longer works that are available for modest prices and if the shorts are any indication, they're worth it. She has an interesting range and campy style, and her stories include everything from sci-fi, humorous horror (and not at all gory), and whimsical reveries on things commonly found in nature.

P.J. O'Brien | 114 comments Also, reading reviews of Dorie's work led me to author Mary E. Lowd. I've just downloaded samples from her too. She also seems to have a scifi - whimsy range. It looks like her stories have been published in magazines for a while, but since I wasn't familiar with her, I felt a little rediscovery by fairy godreaders wouldn't be out of line.

I'd love to try them out, but can't do much anytime soon. I have to do so much reading for assignments that I can't do much fun for a long time. In fact, I haven't had a chance to be on Goodreads to just check in. Can you or someone else hold down the godreaders fort until all my academic and professional aspirations are achieved?

P.J. O'Brien | 114 comments I was a little worried there. I'll keep discovering, posting, and reading, but don't want to be moderator, even if it's a low-key thing. Hang in there and pop in to see us occasionally.

P.J. O'Brien | 114 comments I've just discovered writer Ulf Wolf and have been binging on his short stories, most of which are free on Smashwords. Check him out, particularly if you're looking for a range of topics and style, from short stories to full novel series. (Not all are free, but enough to get a sense of whether you'd like to read his works before buying.)
