It can be very funny--there are a couple of places where I actually laughed out loud--but it is also tragic h0w overworked and underpaid Jr. Doctors are, and for so long. I have heard the same kinds of myths in Canada where they don't include the lowest paid doctors in the average incomes, etc. Doctors in the UK all seem to be on salary if they work for the National Health Service, which is different than most Canadian and American doctors where it's fee per service. The emotional toll he writes about is very real in a doctor's life, and I have to agree that choosing a profession like this at sixteen is too young for most--it's better to decide that in university (or establish that that is what you want.)

I am not a medical professional, but grew up around them. I have known a few doctors socially who ended up having emotional burnout--it's not always easy to remain emotionally detached, and in the end I doubt anyone with any sort of empathy and compassion can remain completely detached. So while you will probably laugh if and when you read this, you will also read about things that aren't funny in the least.
