I am really struggling to like this book in its entirety. Much like with the Near Witch, where I basically salute the author and therefore wanted to heart the heck out of the book too (but couldn’t), I’m finding the same with this one. I heart Roth’s previous books so much, however this one seems like she is trying so hard to differentiate that it detracts from the story. +200 pages in, and so far everything feels like back story to the next 200 pages, and every time I start getting into a scene I get battered with what I’m now referring to as ‘unwanted advert breaks’ (research papers). It makes this book a slog to read as it totally messes up the pacing, but I want to keep going as every ten pages or so, you get a slice of the real Roth, and her characters shine through the page.

This last 40 pages could have been written in ten. She went for a run, met a guy, and ticked off an old friend to clarify her situation. The other 30 pages could have been edited out.

I'm still enjoying it, more than you it seems. Maybe cos I'm not expecting anything like Divergent? I actually think this is better written!

Clues... Still thinking there's something in all the references to tall people.
