Question though, do you have specific rules or any way you typically do this or do we just read and discuss together?

Just read and discuss together

If you two are not that far in, read no further please!
First of all, I love first lines in books. I "collect" first lines, so to speak. And I just love the first line here. "He began his new life standing up, surrounded by cold darkness and stale, dusty air." Brilliant.
Initial impressions. I love Thomas already. Such a delightful smart-mouth. I also really like Newt. I want to know more about this guy.
Not fond of Chuck though. Kind of annoying really.
I love the world building so far. It was overwhelming at first, but the author does a terrific job of making it unfold for the reader in the first few chapters.
I'm wondering if with the weird color of the sun and the lack of weather, maybe they are in a dome of some sort. I'm also thinking the weird feeling of calm Thomas had was somehow controlled by whoever is running this. Maybe chemically?
So many questions!
Curious what your first impressions are.

Ok I have started it
(I'm writing this on my phone)
First I do like Thomas alright. You are right about Chuck is a little annoying. (I liked him better in the movie)
I am liking the book better then the movie.

I finished, but I have notes on varies parts so I can talk about them as you get there.
For the record? I loved it. Not a perfect 5 star, but a solid 4 star read.

You did? Awesome! Oh gosh so much to talk about. Where to even start?
yeah I did and it was a good book but it wasn't my favorite. I am thinking I should have read it before I saw the movie.
I got a little confused cause I kept getting it mixed up with the movie.

I did love Thomas though. He was a solid lead.
I loved Newt the best of the other gladers. He definitely was the "Glade mom" as Thomas called him. But he just had so much heart.
I loved Minho as well.
Overall the characters were great.
I felt like the pacing was amazing too. It kept me engaged.
I think my main issue was with the ending. It just didn't thrill me. It didn't make me want to go read the next one (though I do want to read the prequel, that sounds pretty interesting).
I also didn't like how after all the build up for the maze, the maze was just a distraction. I wanted more from that.
I just loved Newt (in the movie also)
I liked Chuck a lot better in the movie more then in the book. I get him more in the movie then the book. I still hated Gally in the book like I did the movie.
I liked the pace also it was just fast enough for me. I will read the rest of the series maybe just not right now.
I would have to seen more of the maze also

I really dug the general dynamics of the group. I was worried it was going to be a bit too Lord of the Flies for me, but I liked how they worked together. Even if there was the Gally and his crew.
I may finish it at some point, I think I'll read the prequel before the sequel though.
When they are having the meeting for what to do with Thomas and Minho tells Gally off. What is your favorite part?
When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his name. He’s surrounded by strangers—boys whose memories are also gone.
Nice to meet ya, shank. Welcome to the Glade.
Outside the towering stone walls that surround the Glade is a limitless, ever-changing maze. It’s the only way out—and no one’s ever made it through alive.
Everything is going to change.
Then a girl arrives. The first girl ever. And the message she delivers is terrifying.
Remember. Survive. Run
