Lea (woodhull) | 3 comments There's a few different lists for post-apocalyptic romance novels on goodreads, I know, but I was wondering if any of you guys had personal recs? I'm trying to bypass anything purely erotica or just purely cheesy. Just an honest build of romance in a harsh landscape. If anyone has seen the game "The Last of Us", something close to that world would be amazing (namely: zombies, just trying to survive, etc).

...so... anything? (I feel like crickets are chirping as I end this.)

Mariana | 6 comments There is nothing I enjoy more than a well-written dystopian/post-apocalyptic romance book, but most are either YA or erotica. I will recommend the Eve trilogy by Anna Carey. It's YA romance.

Simran . (_allthingssteamy) You should try beyond series by Kit Rocha, if you’re into erotica.

Maxine | 3 comments BB Easton’s Rain trilogy - no zombies though. Have you read Kylie Scott’s Flesh series?

Jay (jnella_f) | 2 comments I definitely recommend these books for that apocalyptic slow burn romance!

Angelfall by Susan Ee
Pestilence by Laura Thalassa
The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey

Jay (jnella_f) | 2 comments Pestilence by Laura Thalassa** forgot the full author’s name 😅

Sarah | 19 comments I highly recommend the Fallen World trilogy The Queen of All that Dies (The Fallen World, #1) by Laura Thalassa

And this is a long book but very good... Land of the Beautiful Dead by R. Lee Smith

Lea (woodhull) | 3 comments I actually haven't read any of these suggestions so far, other than Pestilence which I have to admit... I deleted before I finished the second or third chapter. 😅 Neither the writing nor the lead male were my cup of tea.

Definitely checking out all of the other recs, however, and I don't mind YA! I don't even mind *erotica*, honestly - there's just rarely emotional connection to the story or the characters in those (obviously). LGBTQ+ recs are also welcomed. I just want a really good story at this point.

K Farrell | 1 comments Nobody's Hero by Bec McMaster is the first of three books in the Burned Lands Series. Post Apocalyptic Australian desert with a paranormal element. Loved the first book.

Thicker Than Blood Series
by Madeline Sheehan and Claire C. Riley

message 21: by Carole (new)

Carole | 4 comments Not sure if anyone has suggested Ilona Andrews Kate Daniels Series, The first book was my least favourite, but each book just gets stronger as you read through the series. Lots of interesting paranormal magic and shifters and a kickass heroine with quirky found family. Here is a quick precis: The world has suffered a magic apocalypse. We pushed the technological progress too far, and now magic returned with a vengeance. It comes in waves, without warning, and vanishes as suddenly as it appears. When magic is up, planes drop out of the sky, cars stall, electricity dies. When magic is down, guns work and spells fail.

It’s a volatile, screwed-up world. Magic feeds on technology, gnawing down on skyscrapers until most of them topple and fall, leaving only skeletal husks behind. Monsters prowl the ruined streets, werebears and werehyenas stalk their prey; and the Masters of the Dead, necromancers driven by their thirst of knowledge and wealth, pilot blood-crazed vampires with their minds.

In this world lives Kate Daniels. Kate likes her sword a little too much and has a hard time controlling her mouth. The magic in her blood makes her a target, and she spent most of her life hiding in plain sight. But sometimes even trained killers make friends and fall in love, and when the universe tries to kick them in the face, they kick back.

Ace | 5 comments The Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews is really good. The storyline is one of the most original I've read and the world and characters are richly developed. Also, almost the entire series is a slow burn.... and it's SO worth it.
