Beth Mast | 25 comments I have a hard time finding books that I would like to read for this challenge. Where do you go to get your books?

Tarissa (inthebookcase) | 14 comments I find books by looking up "Scotland" on my library's website and scouring the catalog.

Also, if you like classic literature, there's tons you can read from Scottish authors, like Robert Louis Stevenson (Treasure Island!) or Arthur Conan Doyle (Sherlock Holmes!).

Julie (juliemdobson) Ebooks are the easiest for me. Or buy them in the store, some of the more popular authors are there. Order them online. My library doesn't have a lot of options (from Canada) so I buy a lot of mine. But most libraries should have some of the mainstream ones.

Beth Mast | 25 comments I have to purchase a library card in order to use our local libraries. :( So, I purchase my books.

How unfair to make you buy a library card! Why that's un-American! I usually just buy my books used on Amazon or Awesome Books. also Paperbackswap is a nice program online. You list books you will swap and there are millions to chose from to get. You pay to mail a book someone requests from you and then you get a credit and with that credit you then get a book mailed free to you. I have gotten some really nice, out of print, vintage books thru there. The Book Depository does not charge shipping. And of course used book stores are my favorite thing in the world! although it is getting harder to find them. If you want to see list of books to chose from hop over to my blog and check out the links on the sign up page for this challenge (http://peggyannspost.blogspot.com/201...) and the 2014 review page (http://peggyannspost.blogspot.com/p/r...) as it has 179 links to reviews from last years challenge!

Beth Mast | 25 comments thanks! ill check it out. I will never forget when the librarian took mu books away because we moved to a township whose tax dollars do not go to local.library. I was devastated!

Beth, there are various Goodreads groups that concentrate on British books and you can get good ideas for books you might want to read. Then you can look them up used on the U.S. Amazon. For books that can be hard to find in the US, they can frequently be found from British sellers there, on the U.S. Amazon. and even though they are shipped from over there, it is still the regular 3.99 shipping charge!

Beth Mast | 25 comments Didn't know that about Amazon! Good to know, thanks

C.A. Mitchell (camitchell) | 3 comments Do any US folks tend to search 'scottish' in the Amazon search field? (Or UK for that matter) Because every time I do it only seems to bring back kilt-clad hunks with titles like 'To Love a Laird'. Now, there's nothing wrong with a wee Highland fling every now and then, but I'd like a bit more variety!

Anyone got any searching tips or terms they've found particularly helpful?

You might want to try Amazon.co.uk...then if you find something, go back to the U.S. Amazon to see if it's available there, where the shipping is more reasonable. You could also look on Waterstones site for ideas. Are you looking for a specific genre?

I don't search Amazon for 'Scottish' for the reason you said! But get authors names from here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_... and here: http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/cou... or here: http://peggyannspost.blogspot.com/p/r... and then search by name. The Book Depository is a good place to get UK books as they ship free to anywhere in the world.

Try searching"scottish fiction or literature", that helps a bit. A few kilted hunks will still show up.

Try specific places, like Orkney, Shetland, lewis or Harris. I love the Peter May books set in the Hebrides . http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_....
