Felicia (feliciajoe) This year I'm going for 17 books!
Update: 20 books!

This is the lowest goal I've had so far. I have a lot of books I want to re-read, and I don't count re-reads. Therefore I'm gonna do 17 books. (As always, I might change this goal as the year go.)

For yearly challenges, I'm participating in the 'Let's Turn Pages'-challenge where my goal is 8000 pages.

Five books I wanna read this year:
The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett
Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk
A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness
Battle Royale by Koushun Takami
Foundation by Isaac Asimov

2015, here goes!

Jodi (readinbooks) | 1971 comments Hi Felicia,

I loved Pillars of the Earth! I hope you enjoy it.

You should count rereads. I don't reread books often but I find when I do, I get something different or new from the book. I notice things I didn't notice in the first read. What are some of your favourites you want to reread?

message 3: by Felicia (last edited Jan 07, 2015 10:08AM) (new)

Felicia (feliciajoe) There's of course always Harry Potter. And I then perhaps The Little Prince and probably Room. Have you read Room by Emma Donoghue? I always tell people how food that one is. And probably the Danish book series The Shamer's Daughter by Lene Kaaberbøl which I read as a pre-teen and just completely adored.

I'll confuse myself with counting re-reads. I'll post them here, but not count them for my overall Goodreads reading challenge.

Felicia (feliciajoe) 1. Terry Pratchett/Neil Gaiman: Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch
(finished Jan 24)
3 stars.

I found this book really good, though sometimes it took me a while to get through it. I was very off in this one because of all kinds of outer stuff, so I actually think it deserves more than I decided to give it. I really should re-read it in a more calm time.

message 5: by Fiza (new)

Fiza Kuzhiyil (fizak) A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness was heartbreaking and sad. Great book though, despite the fact that it puts you in a tender sad mood. lol have fun!

message 6: by Felicia (new)

Felicia (feliciajoe) Haha, oh, I can't wait xD Seriouly, I'm actually really looking forward to it.

message 7: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments Good luck with your challenge, Felicia!

Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch is one of my favorite books, but it definitely requires some attention.

What are you going to read next?

message 8: by Felicia (new)

Felicia (feliciajoe) Yeah, I don't think I gave it the attention it deserved.

I'm actually about to read a book written by my friend, Cathy Ford. It's her first book, and she's still editing, so it hasn't been published yet, but I think it'll be out this year. I'm kinda excited about it.

message 9: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments Oh wow! That's so cool. I don't know anyone that writes, but it's great to be able to get the advance story and offer suggestions.

message 10: by Felicia (new)

Felicia (feliciajoe) Yeah, I'm giving feedback, and I hope I'm not to hard on her. It's a good book, but I'm thinking it can be better, so I point out every little detail for her xD

message 11: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments I bet that's why she's giving the book to you, is to get your nitpicky opinion on everything. She can choose to use or not use your feedback, but the book will be better from getting another perspective. Just make sure to tell her how proud you are for writing a book!

message 12: by Felicia (new)

Felicia (feliciajoe) I think it is. And I really am very proud. (:

message 13: by Felicia (last edited Feb 25, 2015 01:43PM) (new)

Felicia (feliciajoe) 2. Cathy Ford/Valerie Thomas: Fire Rising (finished Feb 8)

I'm so proud of my friends for actually writing a book. It will be released in August, as far as I'm told.

Felicia (feliciajoe) Jackie B. wrote: "You're so close to the finish line! What book are you reading now to meet your goal?"

The Well of Ascension (:
After the first one, there was not much of a choice :D

message 32: by Jackie B. - (new)

Jackie B. - Death by Tsundoku (reiwing2040) | 1343 comments I'm so glad to hear that! I have heard great things about Sanderson's writing-- but I've only read the last three Wheel of Time books he finished for Robert Jordan. I assume this means they are worth the huge word count? ;)

message 33: by Felicia (new)

Felicia (feliciajoe) They definitely are! (:
Well, I've actually only read the one so far, but I really liked that one! Recently I've gotten into reading long serials again, starting with Game of Thrones, and I remembered why I'm such a huge fan of them.
I have Wheel of Time somewhere in my future too! My roommate has them all, so I'm gonna borrow them from him. Like them?

I really love them. I think that Robert Jordan gets a bit lost sometimes, but that doesn't lessen how wonderful they are to me. It's the world building which I mostly get pulled into, and I have a weakness for strong female characters (of which there are many). I strongly recommend them. Just know you're in for the long haul if you commit! Don't give up-- it's worth reading them all for the series conclusion. :)

I love the long haul! Thanks for your advice! (:

Felicia (feliciajoe) 22. Lev Grossman: The Magicians
Finished December 20
1 star

message 41: by Jackie B. - (new)

Jackie B. - Death by Tsundoku (reiwing2040) | 1343 comments Yes! I'm so glad there is someone else who didn't enjoy The Magicians. I don't get all the hype around it. I didn't find any of the characters likable or relatable.

message 42: by Felicia (new)

Felicia (feliciajoe) Jackie - Ugh, I really hated it! Everything was completely ridiculous, and most of it didn't make any sense.

message 43: by Jackie B. - (new)

Jackie B. - Death by Tsundoku (reiwing2040) | 1343 comments It feels good to not be alone in this. :)

I hope your next book is a great read! You deserve a strong book after that one.

message 44: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments Congratulations on finishing your challenge, Felicia!

I feel like everyone either LOVES or HATES The Magicians - there's no in between. I want to read it eventually to see what I think, but it's fairly far down my priority list because of the negative reviews.

message 45: by Felicia (new)

Felicia (feliciajoe) Thanks, Cassandra :D

Yeah, I actually felt that too when I read through reviews. Even amongst my GR friends, it gets totally different ratings! I guess it's just one of those books (:

message 46: by Jackie B. - (new)

Jackie B. - Death by Tsundoku (reiwing2040) | 1343 comments Until this moment, I never read the other reviews for that book. I never noticed that! Good eye, Cassandra. Good eye.
