Literary Horror discussion

Depressing news. I just read the following on Melanie Tem’s Facebook page.

Forgive the impersonal nature of this, but I wanted to let people know as smoothly as possible that I’ve just been diagnosed with cancer in the stomach lining. Two and a half years ago, shortly after we moved into our new home, the breast cancer I had in 1997 recurred, metastasized to my skeleton. It had destroyed part of a vertebra, but until a month ago I had very few symptoms. But now my skeleton, bone marrow, and stomach are all involved. No one can predict how much time we have, but the doctor is estimating about a year. I won’t be on Facebook much but Steve will let you know as things progress. I’ve explored alternate treatments and have made my choices. Although I appreciate people’s concern, I’m not soliciting suggestions. I’ll make this the best year I can.

I’m more famliar with the work of her husband, but I’ve read enough of Melanie’s work to know that she’s a talented writer.

So sad. Her first three novels were especially great.

Damn, that's really awful. I've just read a story she co-wrote with her husband actually - "Domestic Magic" in the anthology Magic: An Anthology of the Esoteric and Arcane.

I was just informed that Melanie Tem passed away today.

What a godawful shame. RIP.
