Ashley Weaver-morales | 19 comments I read this book recently and since it is a new movie, I decided to count it as this week. I would love to hear others opinions of the book as I loved it. It was truly amazing to me all he lived through....

akaellen | 19 comments It was amazing to me that he lived through so much in his life. Truly a testament to what the human spirit can endure.

Erica | 214 comments I'm starting this now for Week 2. It sounds really interesting.

Erica | 214 comments Wow, I just finished this and loved it. It really is amazing that he went through so much and was able to empathize with even the cruelest people he encountered. Having lived in Japan, it's difficult for me to reconcile the Japan I fell in love with with the atrocities the military committed during the war. But now that I live in China, it helps me understand a bit more the way many Chinese people feel toward the Japanese, for all that they did during the war, and even more so for not taking any responsibility for it, even now (although those feelings should be directed at the government and past military, but are often directed at Japanese people in general). Also very impressed with the author for her thorough research in writing this.
